These apartments by the library are looking pretty nice
Just imagine this entire stretch of Clark lined with street level retail, expanding the offerings of the Village shopping center⌠sigh
You have to admit they have are making a mark in the density department over at the Village. Bonus with the retail and eating establishments.
âtrueurbanistâ rolling their eyes at me wishing this stretch was made to be more âurbanâ is irony
Not all buildings need retail spaces. There are countless successful communities & cities with these types of residential buildings. This area is surrounded by local and national retailers.
Similar to the dorm on Hillsborough, this development will increase the demand for more retail spaces. Other developments in this area will include retail.
Here is a hint as to the view of the DTR skyline that The Oberlin hotel will enjoy.
That is the current top floor peeking up over the tree line from our balcony view.
Received notice today that Oberlin Road will be pavement resurfaced next week (10/13 - 10/18). Work is occurring at night (7pm - 7am).
About an inch was milled from the patchwork existing pavement surface over the last couple of weeks. Some sidewalk construction and street furniture/landscaping remains to be completed.
However the Oberlin Road complete street improvement project that has been underway all summer appears to be on schedule for a Fall completion date.
I mean, I would hope⌠yet more often than not new developments include 1, maybe 2 retail spaces - and usually theyâre so gigantic that they sit empty for years because nobody can nor wants to afford them. More, smaller spaces in every new development would guarantee lower retail rent prices and entice so many new small/local businesses to set up shop. But sure, letâs just keep doing the same exact thing every time and watch nothing continue to happen hahaha
Glad to hear Benchwarmers is taking a spot in Rockway though. Of course, theyâre neither new nor particularly âsmallâ at this point, but they are local. So there is some good news.
The highly praised historical neighborhoods in Philly, DC, NYC, Boston, etc. are primarily residential with little to no retail besides bodegas on every other corner, if that.
Also, no large development will have small AND affordable retail units, that doesnât seem like something those developers want based on what weâre seeing.
Iâm more in favor of small developments with micro-retail given that these developments are more likely to have small AND affordable retail units.
Oh, Iâm with you 100% on that last note!
Yeah, I canât think of the planned development near the Platform but thatâs what we need more of in every neighborhood. (Two apartment buildings, one thatâs 4 stories and has a micro-retail space)
Per the agenda for the Oct. 15 city council meeting, Village District appears to be in the process of getting a sip nâ stroll (or a social district under some other name).
That would be great. Lots of bars from the restaurants there, but would hope this would encourage a couple more true bars/bottle shops/etc. to pop up in the area.
Shall they call it sip nâ shop?
I like the sip and stroll iniative. But the name still sucks.
Maybe âGet hammeredân shopâ
I like Chug ânâ Stumble
Is there not a bottle shop there? I never thought about it, but that would be a good fitâŚ
Hammered and Hemorrhage (money)
Iâm surprised I havenât seen any photos of it here, but has anyone else noticed the âCamden Villageâ sign on the new apartment complex in CV?
Saw it ealier this week or late last week while driving so i didnât get a picture.
Theyâve probably changed it by now
