Village District Developments

One good thing to come out of this pandemic may be that Raleigh finally starts embracing rooftop dining and bar options in a serious way.

Sounds like the Cameron Village McDonalds is about to become a new bank building.

“In a Nov. 2 filing with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, JPMorgan notified regulators of its plans for a “staffed branch” at Cameron Street and Oberlin Road in Raleigh.”

New Chase branch, I assume?

Correct. This is one of the new Chase locations in the Triangle (the article mentioned 10 with 3 in Raleigh)

Wouldn’t it make more sense if it was going in the office building at that intersection?

Isn’t that where the WakeMed Cameron Village is being built? Plus assuming it will be like most banks out side of downtown, where would the obligatory () drive though teller go in this building?

Nope, that’s being built where the old post office used to be.

I’m assuming the drive thru would be in that area under the building? I’m not saying it couldn’t be the McDonald’s, I just think they would’ve mentioned that in the article. I guess we’ll see!

Does anyone know what the drive through regulations are like these days in Cameron Village and nearby areas?

If I recall, the Chick fil A development took great care in how the drive through interacts with pedestrian areas. I’m not sure if that was their choice or because of the city’s regulations.

Another Lock7 Development coming near Cameron Village… 713 Oberlin Rd. 8 townhomes and 1 SFH.

And it’s only replacing a parking lot. Good stuff!

Excellent, been waiting for someone to redevelop this lot. I run down Oberlin (from Wade Ave area) and around Cameron Village often. One MAJOR thing Oberlin Rd desperately needs to become more pedestrian friendly is some more damn street lights leading into Cameron Village. It’s so dark and dreary running down Oberlin at night.

That stand-alone unit will go quickly. My guess on pricing is $$$$$$$

Post office’s replacement is coming along.

Gosh, I really prefer the old building. Talk about disappointing.

Really? I hated that old building, and hated trying to use the post office there. I’m not giggling with delight over this new building, but I feel like it looks fine and is a better use for the space and a better fit for the area. :man_shrugging:

That post office parking lot was a certifiable nightmare. But the last building at least had sorta of a cool liner look. This doesn’t look any bigger and is that pastiche modernism. I guess I am just disappointed that this spot didn’t get anything nicer, or bigger, considering the growing density of this part of town.

I have to agree. While the new building is not bad, it’s a shame the replacement is the same size and not adding anything to Cameron Village. Seems pretty shortsighted, imo. I was pretty sad to see the old building go; it was one of the last pieces of public modernist architecture in the city.

I am, however, really glad it’s replacement is better than that animal hospital under construction in the weird cloverleaf of Wade and Oberlin, but at least that will be Passive House. Quantum Architects

Is that what that white beam thing is under construction by there? I’ve been wondering about that. Looks cooler now than it will as a finished product. But at least it will be a good use (helping pets).

Yeah, I mean I was hoping for something bigger and more interesting, but after I learned it wasn’t going to be, I guess I lost interest in it. It was just interesting to see it come to life, as any new building is for me. Because I’m a dork.

What an ugly building I hope it last a year before it’s bulldozed like the post office before it
