West End - Platform, Oldham & Worth, Old Train Station

Adjusted for relevance.

Floorplans and pricing are up for Platform with availability starting Oct. 1. Studio units start at $1470 (534 sq ft). Floorplans are cleverly named after passenger rail routes, presumably to distract from how ugly the building is.

There is! It’s a pretty neat concept called district energy. It’s quite common in DC, but basically you have a big mechanical room in the basement of the building with a large chiller and boiler unit that heats/cools the entire complex (also presumably provides hot water). The service would be built into the rental rates.

It’s actually a commonly used concept at almost all major universities on a larger scale. It’s wayyyyy more efficient and frees up a lot of space on the rooftop. I think it’s more common in larger units. It’s not as common because it’s a higher first cost, but long term it’s a much better solution.

Never in my life have I seen such a variety of studio/1 bedroom floor plans. Goodness!!

The State Gov’t complex uses this. Some folks might remember the MASSIVE hole they dug under the mall between the Capitol and Legislative bldgs when the constructed the new history museum back in the last century. :older_man:
Interestingly, on my own campus they are going to the individual units on roof tops because of the problems with the central chiller units.

The sign went up yesterday on one side. Per the renderings, I think we can expect some seafoam illumination here in the near future.

I’m wondering if there will be another sign over by the gas substation, too. They built a cinder block wall around the substation. I’d love to see some public art there.

Looking closer to being ready. I just wish they would get the darn street open. It’s very aggravating.

Seafoam splotching aside, if the lap siding section(s) was another more complementary color rather than white this thing wouldn’t be as BIG of a poke in the eye…

How long before they repaint the seafoam? Will it be before or after 615 Peace is completed?

RIP the Berkeley, but man is that tower going to do wonders for connecting the Fayetteville St and Warehouse District skylines.

What should the nickname for this building be?

  • The Bridesmaid Dress
  • The Beach House
  • I hate seafoam and won’t take part in this poll!

Or

:black_square_button: indifferent to the fuss about the colors, its a mid-rise apartment building and will eventually just blend in :raised_hand:

Yeah it certainly won’t win any awards or stand out for beautiful design standards. We can only hope that it will simply blend in at the end of the day.

Hoping the street trees they plant are varieties that get big enough to obscure the building. We lost some lovely mature trees and now have to look at a really mediocre building every day instead.
