Ahh, that makes sense. In reality, rarely are people going 30 on this section of the street, though.
If I go into dreaming mode, you build a tunnel under downtown and have the through traffic underground. Go in from the south as you climb up the hill past the money shot, then pop out to the north on Capitol, somewhere between Longleaf and Smokey hollow.
Now that is the true solution to a lot of the problems connectivity wise for the city. Anyone have 5 Billion we can borrow?
I’m sure there’s 5 mutibillionaires who could each spare a billion. #eattherich
On the other hand if your goal is to get to the other side, taking the beltline around downtown only take about 10 minutes.
They just retimed the lights on Person its about down to 20-25mph or you have to completely stop at the line at each light
Ask Boston about the experience of making that happen for them with the big dig.
Yeah I remember that fiasco, though the final product is quite nice. This would be much smaller in scope, but I realize it’s a pipe dream.
That’s great to hear! How did you hear they got retimed, or is that just from experience driving Person? I’m only asking as I’d like to dive into who/how/etc for consideration of McDowell/Dawson.
I live on Person so drive it every day. It has been quite an adjustment
I’m seeing surveying and drilling activity around the tracks @West St…
Do you have a link to the plan? Is it CAMPCO or city of Raleigh
Interesting! Definitely want to dig up that plan and find out what else they have going on.
Creating a couple of blocks here is a great idea, maybe they’ll also revisit how many units they want to add.
So, the parallel parking is going to have ADD?
Not sure how this slipped from my radar, but the City of Raleigh tried to apply for the INFRA grant (one of several competitive programs from the federal DoT) to help pay for the West St. extension. It didn’t win, though, since there wasn’t enough money to go around.
…but it still scored well enough that, last September, it was invited to apply for a bigger federal loan than what we would normally be eligible for! Not sure if the city has actually applied for that loan, yet, though.
That’s a pit-boxer if I’ve ever seen one. Beautiful
Tonight’s City Council meeting, in regards to an unrelated petition, there was a comment about the West Street Connector and cost. They’re actively working on this project and looking at $30 million to $45 million more in cost (relations what has been spent at this time).
However, the city might now be looking at getting the Edward Mills to Hillsborough connection started again but very far into the future.
