I was walking from @OakCityDylan & @OakCityKarla 's place and was thinking about how that would actually work when one considers that the grade coming out would have to mimic the grade on the other side. If that’s the case, it’s going to need every bit of the stretch of S. West from the railroad r.o.w. to Cabarrus St., if not a bit more. I can imagine the solution to connect West could include closing Cabarrus to through traffic.

This one screams “waiting for a grant” for the actual construction. Feels like a project that could get one.

There is a little movement on the West Street Extension project. We received a notice saying the city has contracted Kimley-Horn to conduct hydrologic and hydraulic analysis to build a stormwater model that will quantify potential downstream impacts.

The project website has also been updated (emphasis added by me):

Updated Summer 2022
We are working on a stormwater impact study for the area and the team continues to to track the status of railroad agreements.
Raleigh City Council approved a municipal agreement between the City and NCDOT in early April 2021. The agreement states that the City will complete the project design and engineering plans. NCDOT will oversee the project’s construction phase. Cabarrus Street will be closed to vehicular traffic at the railroad tracks as part of the project.

Thanks for the update!

I like that it called out “vehicular” traffic for the Cabarrus St closure and not “all” to include ped. Leaves some hope.

Hmm, the same developer owns the land on either side… would be nice if they included a pedestrian bridge over the tracks at Cabarrus.

@OakCityDylan would definitely back you in that pedestrian bridge idea!

Stop posting your amazing fake redevelopment proposals because it’s causing me bursts of excitement before realizing it’s you :rage: (obviously kidding, love your ideas- keep em coming!)

I want to highlight the Rainbow Luncheonette for the forum. If you haven’t been by since they officially opened a bit over 2 months ago, give it a try! We stopped in for breakfast this morning and it was great! A welcome addition for this side of town!

Seriously appreciative of this reminder. I keep forgetting to check this out and just glanced at the Google pics…looks really good.

The city posted a survey to gauge public input on the bike lanes on West St. to continue the greenway connection.

I’m not really sure what change option 2 and 3 include, but option 1 looks like an improvement.

So if you click on the link on that page titled West Street Alternatives Roll Plots, it opens a PDF that shows you the full length of each option. For Alternatives 2 & 3, the cycle track begins around Cleveland St:

Personally, I’m still partial to Alternative 1, but wanted to make sure everyone sees the entirety of what they’re voting for.

Agree with Alt 1. All look great. I’ve been bullish on this part of West street for years and glad to see it’s coming together. This + new park will be transformative

Prospects Craft Kitchen & Cocktail Bar is now open in the former Rainbow Luncheonette space. I haven’t been yet, but the menu and photos they posted to Instagram look intriguing. They’re also open late most days of the week.

No prices on the menu indicate to me that this is gonna be overpriced AF. In that location, the little diner concept made sense. This? Good luck to them…

Probably just the soft opening menu, so no one was charged for it and is why there’s no prices.

Looks pretty interesting food wise.

I remember that one of the facets of Prospect’s was a place for people who are servers and bartenders to have a place to eat after work. They’re going to be open until 3AM. I doubt it will be overly expensive, but we’ll see.

In the original closing it was also supposed to be a “diner-esque eatery” which this doesn’t really seem anything like - I guess we’ll see what happens though.

yeah…maybe something like gc/dc in dc…all sorts of grilled cheese sandwiches and beer.
