Because that costs, at a minimum, over $2 million. Very, very likely it would be a whole lot more (type of glass, standard vs custom framing, a bunch of unknowns that can greatly affect pricing.)
Looks like the updated plans with schematic design have been posted. Looks like they are adding two floors of perforated wall paneling on top of Alexander square. That wall paneling will also be included on the first 12 floors of the North side of the building. Depending on the type of wall paneling they use, this has the potential to look very bland. A google search for types of perforated metal wall paneling didn’t bring up many good options either.
This is where we need another “shimmer wall” type of thing to make this opportunity a form of public art. Of course, there’s no mechanism in place (that I know of) that can force the developer to do that since there isn’t a rezoning request associated with the project. Even so, I doubt that this council would use their leverage for appearance, rather they’d likely be myopically focused on AH.
Imagine if that Fayetteville St. facing wall was a water & living wall feature. Imagine how cool that would be!
Imagine if there was something done with LED lighting that allowed that wall to be a living-light wall that “danced” at night! That could be cool too.
John I love all of those ideas. Hopefully someone associated with this project is reading this forum and would implement one of your ideas.
Better yet, email Kane Realty!
OMG build it! Love that cantilever
Can we build that over Stef Mendel’s house?
Does that thing have an elevator?
Is that a hand gun?
Best I can say is at least that perforated wall paneling looks 100% better than bare concrete blocks. I’ll take it (but yes some sort of public art/sculpture/living (plant) wall would be even better)
121 Fayetteville will have a pretty transformative effect. All southeastern and northern angles get better.
Before:
After:
Starting to look more like a proper city.
I think perf metal is the opposite of bland, but it’s all in the detailing and how they articulate it. There’s a huge difference between slapping a twelve-story wall with monotonous sheets of metal that have no relief, vs. having reveals, framing sections in another material, or creating patterns in the facade. oblig. image examples:
imo, you can’t ask for much more than this for a parking deck on a developer project.
Here’s both a tower that cantilevers as it rises, and treats its parking pedestal in a variety of aesthetic ways. It’s under construction in Miami.
It would look even more proper if all of the multi-family residential projects that exist in Glenwood South were indicated!
Where did this come from?
I started this render back in May and it’s been sitting around getting nowhere for months. 121 kinda motivated me to chip at it some more. I’ll add Glenwood next, don’t worry.
Smokey Hollow Phase III also looks great in that massing render.
Very cool…thank you!
I believe that you are showing the N&O block here…
I would say that the heights will not be as “comparable” as you show…but I would love to see something with that height
No that’s 121 Fayetteville. According to site plans it’s 415’, so that’s what it is in the render. Confession, I don’t actually know what the south side of the building looks like. The North side is pretty interesting with the cantilevered floors and ridges.
From the northwest you can see the impact the Nexus, The Municipal Center, 301 H, and 400 H will have. I haven’t included buildings from later stages of the N&O site, since those are more nebulous. I also haven’t included RUSBus or the other DX-40 building on Peace until it’s more clear if those will pan out, and how the final plans will look.
It’s already been confirmed 121 is 415ft dude
