Do you still work across from Walter tier in NH? Haven’t seen your great pics in a while.
Company transitioned to working from home March of last year. Unfortunately, I never got a chance to take photos of the progress of the Walter from that office space.
Thought that might be it.
Stout…characters…
I was driving toward Downtown on S. Saunders and even from far away this building really stuck out above the trees. Didn’t get a picture but it makes a big difference!
Sounds like changing the plans for Phase 2 of this project isn’t the only thing the Fallon Company is struggling with…
I’m not following. What’s “Ugh” for?
I’m guessing parking deck?
I’m assuming because you can see buildings instead of just trees. If only Taverna Agora hadn’t chosen to move their restaurant to downtown!
That makes sense. The view was of different buildings (and some skyline) before. Kind of kills that vibe now. Hopefully Phase 2 has a more appealing exterior and street activation.
Fallon Company was just dropped from a major Downtown Durham project this week. I wonder if that means they can put more effort into phase II of 301H.
IMO, places like Taverna Agora are an oasis in the city. It’s not about what you see from there; it’s more about the experience of being there. I think that photo does a fine job of showing it being a respite in the city.
It’s not terribly apparent from the picture, but when you’re sitting up there the parking deck is an elephant staring at you. If phase 2 doesn’t happen, this is a big booboo downtown IMO. That stretch of Hillsborough has a lot of potential to be a nice pedestrian experience, but the 1 acre sized vertical parking structure certainly kills the vibe. Honestly they should have faced the building toward the west and put the ugly deck on Dawson facing the drab law school.
You can see parking decks* not buildings
Thank you for the picture!
Kind of looks like a glass plated chair…
I’ve said this from the minute they released the renders. A wall of concrete parking deck along the entire block. Hence why I haven’t really particularly liked any of the designs/renders from the beginning - they all had walls of parking deck along the entire stretch. The building itself is just fine.
The Hillsborough Street level does have retail (4 spots I believe) and a coffee shop already anchoring the corner closest to Dawson. Agreed that the deck isn’t great, but at least there’s ground-level activation coming. And again, with Phase 2, the west facing part of the deck is covered.
