This sucks. So hard. Between seeing this actually come to fruition, the absolute mockery of that RUSbus bait-and-switch, Berkeley Cafe building and the Depot Building being demo’d and wasted in favor of fucking parking garages … I’m starting to lose faith in Raleigh not becoming THE blandest American city in America.

We’ll always have Charlotte :upside_down_face:

AT LEAST Charlotte has SOMEwhat interesting architecture in their tallest buildings. We have (checks new RUSbus drawings) walls of parking deck with short to short-ish buildings on top of them. (I know I’m being hyperbolic and that Charlotte has those too, but they also have A LOT more that looks better than MOST of what we have here)

Settle for more for Raleigh, we need cheek design but first, get rid of the appearance commission which is illegal. I will email every council to tell them, it’s illegal. At least in NC it is.

Splitting hairs with the Charlotte comparisons. Not sure how we are any better.

Its really sad, pointless, regressive, criminal?, short-sighted - that this stuff is still allowed to happen. I think I hate Raleigh for this one. Laughing emoji response is rather arrogant, just want to point that out :fu:.

I don’t blame Raleigh. The blame lies with the developers. They could have chosen a different direction and worked the building into it. What’s done is done.

I’m also sad about it.

For some reason my sad reaction is showing as a laugh, and I can’t figure out how to change it. It’s glitching? Very odd.

The city issued the demolition permits. Correct me if I’m wrong but they don’t have to do that.

No! we can’t blame the developers. Developers will never choose to save an old building out of the goodness of their heart or make any civic minded decisions. Residents, building codes, inspectors, activists, historic landmarks, etc. are always viewed as an inconvenience. How can we ever trust or rely on developers to be anything other than developers?

Edit: I meant to respond to the other dude. I’m sure that was obvious.

Once this trauma is over, can we start the healing and acceptance? Obviously sad to see this go, but we all knew it was coming.

Great picture though. These kind of in progress demolition shots are so interesting to me.
