That would be a really interesting place for it to go. I wonder what they’d have to do to bring that up to code? I’d still rather see it go into the Hollow in Smoky Hollow.
There was some discussion of bringing the Subway back in the past few years. I wonder what happened to those plans?
Hmmmmm… if true, not sure I’m in love with the idea. M. Night Shayamalan’s The Village District DOES need more entertainment/late night options… but for me personally, a comedy club as old and famous as Goodnights deserves to be in a downtown, HIGH foot trafficked area.
My guess is that they went with the parking that they get with TVD vs downtown. Their current location has lots of on-site parking.
I think that should be “with the VD.” Has a nice ring to it…
It is a fire trap. I am old enough that I frequented the subway in my youth. The limited access and emergency exits plus not sprinkled for fire makes it not permittable so it won’t happen.
But that can be resolved, obviously they’d need to renovate it all to bring it up to code.
I would think they would want to add some sky lights to it, among many other updates.
The mostly empty venue space in City Market, would be a great relocation for Goodnights. It would give life and vibrancy nightly, and make City Market a destination after dark. What’s up with the owners?
ohhhh I like this idea a lot
It always pains me to see how underutilized City Market is. This is a fantastic idea.
Awesome idea. City Market is one of the most underutilized assets in the city.
Absentee owner - this location is one of the top five most lamentable inactive commercial spaces in town
It blows my mind that an owner of such a significant property could be absent… As they say, or get off the pot!
He’s a probably a student of Highwoods.
Was just at Goodnight’s tonight. Love this place and it’s older charm. I so hope this project magically doesn’t happen.
TBJ article about Goodnights potentially moving to Cameron village in the former location of Bargain Box. Fwiw, I have a friend who does comedy at goodnights and he told me a while back that he was hearing Cameron village.
While I’d be happy with ANY nightlife/entertainment being brought to M. Night Shyamalan’s The Village District, I’m still gonna be SALTY AF when they tear down Goodnights’ 100 YEAR OLD BUILDING
truly angry that these POS developers can’t even be bothered just to simply save even the facade of this building for their new development.
Was just reading this. It sounds like they may not be moving to Cameron Village after all. Are they just closing for good, moving somewhere else, or staying put for awhile longer?
The plot thickens…
Are you really blaming the developers? Their job is to deliver investor/shareholder value. Attractive design and historic integrations need to help or at least not harm that. The city’s historic designations should be your target (before Seaboard Station gets torn down too).
