Yup. Cam is here.
I am in Durham a lot. The Van Allen and 555 Roxboro are both becoming awesome projects, regardless of how it looks in that cam. They are impressive additions to the skyline, especially driving up Roxboro due to the elevation. I love both towers
I just have to say that I get a kick of what is considered a tower to some people. IMO, OneGlenwood is not a tower. Itâs a midrise office building, but I just canât call it a tower. It seems that N&O, TBJ, and others are all too quick to call all these 10-12 story buildings, towers.
Itâs Raleigh. Apparently half the population here has batophobia (fear of being in or near tall buildings). So itâs all relative.
Eh, I wouldnât call it a tower in isolation; it was a slip of the tongue. But it is a high-rise according to code, and Iâm currently working on a project where a 7-story hospital is referred to as a âbed tower,â so the terminologyâs been beaten into my brain lol.
I wasnât referring to anything that you said, I was reading some of the links in this thread to news outlets calling all of these, and similar buildings, towers. Honestly, I even struggle to refer to The Dillon as a tower. FNB is sort of the minimum height in which it starts to feel like a tower in my brain.
I ate there at least a hundred times and never had an issue. It was always packed. Something would have to drastically changed in the last few months to have changed that, though I do know the ownership changed about 3 years ago.
WRAL called Metropolitan a towerâŚbut then again, it is WRAL which can barely type complete sentences.
Interesting that they flipped the brick and non-brick potions entirely. Brick costs money I guess.
If you look at the close-ups, the red material in the renderings is not brick⌠looks to have been a charcoal colored brick base with a terra cotta or other panelized material for the upper portion.
Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!!!
Is this thread still about Bloc 83?
Just assume every building will look 20% uglier than the render. Youâll usually be right, and pleasantly surprised when itâs better than that.
In my opinion, and I know itâs not shared by some others, One Glenwood is was more than 20 percent uglier.
It was almost always empty when I would go by which was quite frequently and it seemed like it was more like that than it wasnât especially since the ownership change. I found funny that they didnât try and hang on until Summer time which seemed to be their busier season but maybe they couldnât or just didnât feel like it. My point was I donât believe it was the location and construction that led to the closing as evidenced by the space getting snapped up, but we shall see.
Origin Hotel and Dram and Draught making some good progress. The business next to the old D&D location has also completely cleared out
Passing by One Glenwood on the weekend I noticed a coming soon Gensler sign on the ground levelâŚ
Does anybody know why they relocate from across the street? More space needed or plans for that property?
No idea but I noticed that too and was wondering the same thing
Would not be surprised if they needed more space. When they moved into that building, they were a small group doing almost exclusively interior up-fits. Theyâve got a good number of local ground-up developments in the works now and have been hiring.
Also, I think I remember hearing that they shared a model shop with Vines (another growing local design firm in the same building)⌠wonder if theyâve both outgrown a shared space.
I think the plan all along was for the them to move as I heard about it a while ago. Now are they moving into the ground floor or on 2+?
