Hopefully some actual retail- would fill out a nice variety of streetlevel activity in this building (bar - restaurant - retail(?) - architecture firm office)

Australian-based Mexican food in DTR. This is a sign for me to take my goal seriously. lol

Will this be another big foot print never occupied retail spot just like the one in the L? How many years will it sit empty?

I really hope not. WIth Two Glenwood and The Willard/AC Hotel being developed (and the Origin Hotel around the corner) I would like to think it is a hot spot and filled soon!

this would be a great spot for a shake shack!

Always thought Char-Grill should have been in the Square Burger spot in Moore Square. Shake Shack anywhere in DTR would be great.

The El is in an isolated location in between two primary arterial roads that carry commuters primarily. While I 1000% support retail space just about everywhere, that is a tough spot to be breaking the ice from. One Glenwood seems like a prime spot to me. Slow traffic. Swelling foot traffic. Should be fine.

Hotel looks months away from opening. The inside is still empty.

Isn’t that so strange? I mean, the garage went up in like days. The 10 story office tower was also framed out in like a month. But the hotel, which simply wrapped to the front of the garage… it went on for months slowly adding floors. And it’s STILL not open for business?

Their Instagram only shares about their other locations. I’ve asked a few times why they don’t document the progress in Raleigh, a completely new market, and they basically just say stay tuned.

On a positive note, Zambrero next to Dram and Draught opens tomorrow! And something is getting built out in the space next to that too.

That place went up quick! Can’t wait to try it!

Australians aren’t used to our slow development routine.

I’ve been obsessively watching the steel for 2 Hillsborough go up for the past few days. Do we know if the utility poles and lines will be buried along Boylan? Watching the webcam, they seem to really stand out to me, IMO it would make the area feel more urban if those lines were all underground.

It seems like any downtown project where the entire block or even most of a block is demolished for new construction should have the power lines buried during the process. I have noticed several projects where that was not done so I’m assuming it’s not required. an example is the Lynk Apartments on Jones Street. They had that sidewalk and street blocked and torn up for over a year and left the power lines above ground.

They did for One Glenwood, so I’m assuming they will again. No inside info tho, just speculation

I suspect that developers don’t want to pay for something that they see as a public responsibility. I have been under the impression for years that the lines on N. Boylan will go underground eventually, but it’s been way more than a decade since I first heard that.
