Bloc 83 - One Glenwood and Origin Hotel

Seven partial levels getting a dusting.

Loving the decor inside Origin, especially this mural. Going to the tour on Wednesday so I’ll have more pics. The sign they have up that I forgot to capture last week…
And some new signage on One Glenwood, complete with a polarized sunglasses view of all the mirror window imperfections.

Can you still depict people smoking? I thought our know-betters had strictly forbidden this for our own good. Though I did find this emoji!! :smoking:
Love the addition of your sunglasses lens! That adds a certainly flair to the composition.

Calavera just announced on Instagram they’re closed for good, and the space will be used for special events. I wouldn’t be shocked if that whole section of the bloc(k) will be sold and demolished soon.

Yikes. Didn’t they just reopen less than a year ago?

They did. They sold the concept to someone else, say that they are going to continue to cater and have special events like their monthly drag brunch, and have online orders. I have to wonder how much all of that construction in their immediate neighborhood hurt their visibility and access. It couldn’t have been a good thing for them, especially with Boylan closed for the block across the street from them.

Seems like something they would’ve thought about before choosing a new location. Their future plans for the building sound to me like someone trying to make a little money until they can sell the property to a developer.

Agreed! It’s either that or they are trying to figure out how to make money until they can get out of their lease without too much pain. Do we even know if they own the property?

Good point. I bet they actually lease it, but exactly what you said.

They probably know something that we don’t know yet. It makes all the sense in the world that the property owner is looking to sell that corner to complete what’s happening across the street and next door to them.

Photodump of the tour. Some great views and the decor is very nice. I think the bar/restaurant/coffee will be something people stop in to check out independent of staying there. Also, there’s a giant squirrel…

Also, April 1 is real opening, soft opening before that.

@GucciLittlePig once again you beat me to the new hotness. My dentist apt prevented me from getting to the earlier tour. TMI. Below are either different angles or shots I didn’t see from your feed. I do like the hotel tho!

Great shots! Those views toward downtown with Citrix and the Dillon evoke a cool tech-warehouse-industrial look. Seems to have a great vibe already.

I’m actually really looking forward to checking out the Origin hotel’s bar and restaurant when they’re finally open. Talk about bag timing. I thought this shot sized up the building nicely including Morgan St. and the tracks.
