Downtown hotels

I think we’d be lucky to have a Grand Bohemian downtown. Just not on that site.

I was thinking of that lot and think it would great location, but not sure if that is avaible??? Is that part of the long ago and often changed project across from DPAC, opps that name is already taken) may MA-PAC !!

I hope that is the case. Would love this to go somewhere else downtown (or downtown South). I do think DTR could use a luxury hotel, just not there and not taxpayer subsidized.

Maybe on a property adjacent of Dix Park and Rock Branch Trail?

Just checked to make sure (thought I knew) where the Asheville hotel is located. Other than being across from entrance to Biltmore it has a McDonald’s to north, starbucks on west and Hardee’s to south. Also only 1 bock from a busy rail line and switch yard. The ambiance is all inside.

F*** no that’s not a convention center hotel

Looks like it would be in Paris.

Exciting but wrong location. Missing @ 34 more stories in height!

I like the hotel very much. It’s not like there’s a shortage of surface parking lots where this would work a lot better…

lol what a way to market it… a dreamy watercolor illustration that makes it look like the freakin Palace of Versailles. No way in hell that would actually get built – look at what the Grand Bohemian in Charlotte looks like (254 rooms, also $110 million).

Asheville one is a little better but nothing like drawing for proposed Raleigh one.

A+ on the design, but it is a bit short for the location. I’d be more than happy if it got built as pictured, though. A building like that would be a real landmark for Raleigh.

I don’t know that I’d believe those sketchy renderings that evoke a romantic image, and “promise” us a highly detailed building constructed with stone mason artistry. It’s more likely to look Disneyesque because we just don’t have those skills available in the marketplace anymore. I’d expect the essence of this design made out of synthetic stucco and/or cast concrete instead of the real deal. This is NOT what the city is going to choose for the sites that they covet so much, so I wouldn’t hold my breath for it in that location.

I do like his idea of putting an art gallery in the hotel as a cultural destination. I think 21C has done a great job of that in all of their hotels. Their hotels are not high end though.

Sure and I like the idea of a cultural district. Just put another 250 rooms of traditional high-end hotel on top of the boutique art gallery, and then another 20 floors of residential on top of that. :+1:

Maybe they could consider another site the City is working to consolidate and sell off land… block east of Moore Sq.??

Would be a perfect location IMO.
