Looks like the Longleaf is asking to rezone itself (and the lot next to it) to DX-40: https://cityofraleigh0drupal.blob.core.usgovcloudapi.net/drupal-prod/COR22/20220307NDawsonStWLaneSt.pdf

rezonings seem to be flooding in while an agreeable council is in place.

Maybe they can move the Holiday Inn over there and stick it on top of the motel.

Not sure how correct this statement is but Wallace Green, VP of Trademark Properties mentioned that the stalled hotel project on Wilmington Street and Lenoir (Home 2 & Tru Hotel) will be ‘under construction some time this year’ while discussing another project at the city council meeting.

I see we’re both listening to the CC meeting. Glad you found the rendering.

Let’s hope so. That parking lot annoys the crap out of me every time I pass it.

Edit: actually isn’t this proposal on the McDonalds side?

The former The Baptist Headquarters property abutting McDonalds. I think a New York developer is considering a 20-story tower project on the property you show here.

Thanks, I hate it!!!

Definitely not winning the Pritzker for its architects, but considering what it’s replacing and that it’s on one of the main driving routes in/out of town, it’s an improvement. The view from what looks like a mid-height lobby/bar should be cool.

Always thought the brickwork on that lil guy was cool. But… time to go!

I don’t think this was shared on here but got this from @svp in our community Slack:

I got it from WRAL. Trying to stay there this summer the night we get married but they don’t let you book far in advance. I think they’re hoping for a big score with fullly rented events, but that and their lack of bar for the public makes me annoyed. But they’re also so cool looking and nice so I guess I will keep liking them.

Weren’t they going to have a bar open to the public? I remember wanting to check it out but then Covid hit. I guess they changed their plans.

It was a COVID thing. They recently announced on their instagram that they are making moves to open the bar up to the public in the near future, so that will be exciting!

Take this for what it’s worth, but the old Enterprise building, while it was in use for random stuff over the last few months since Enterprise vacated it, seems to be completely closed down now. New signs and chains. While I wasn’t thrilled with the concept that went through the Appearance Commission in 2019, I’d take more hotel rooms to complement the Convention Center.

There’s not much on this block. It’s a dead block really. Could be a good place for a mix-used RCC project. Mini-expansion for eGaming for example.

Besides the color I actually think it’s a decent looking building and would offer some contrast compared to some of the others around it.

I really like the notch and the offset windows. That was 3 years ago so hopefully it’d end up with a little more color detail now.

Was this the most recent iteration of the plans?

This will be a nice cluster of hotels if this, the McDowell one, Firestone lot, Nash Square one, the multi-name one near the Wilmington McDonald’s, and the 400-500 room ones happen. There’s probably some ones I missed in there too.
