yes, didn’t you hear? Red Roof Plus is actually Ritz Carlton, they’re just keeping a low profile there next to the freeway
Seriously though, does anyone think we’ll see some site work now that there is a random BIG piece of equipment on site at DTS?

That’s an excavator, not a bulldozer.
The entertainment venue is getting it’s permits, so that could be starting.
It’s hoping someone on this site will be able to Zoom in on the meeting. I would if I could but right now I’m suppose to be at a planned dinner at that time on May 20th.
HAHA i have not got the latest on what’s an excavator vs a steam shovel vs a bulldozer vs. a backhoe vs a skidsteer etc…my takeway was WHATEVER construction equipment this is, what do we think about it, and can / should we read something into its presence.
They could do a ribbon cutting ceremony, first dig of dirt, and leave it alone for another year waiting for interest rates (which look like they aren’t being lowered AT ALL in 2024 from latest economists…but that’s another story)…but a ribbon cutting might give them the “hey we started!”
What do the cool kids here think about the “excavator” and did anyone else wonder when they saw this? Maybe I’m the first driver to notice from on here.
Just my 2 cents from experience in the construction world, but that is probably not the excavator you would have on site for a publicized groundbreaking ceremony ![]()
If it’s just a singular excavator sitting there without much more mobilization I doubt it’s indicative of any near term action. Maybe more stuff is coming soon though so who really knows ![]()
This just in:
Highwoods in discussions to acquire the 140 acre land assemblage located off 401 and Penmarc Drive, the location of the former, much anticipated “Downtown South” development. Sources say as soon as the CEO of Highwoods, Ted Klinck, saw the vast land and close proximity to Downtown Raleigh and Interstate 40, he knew this was a solid real estate move. Plans include a gravel parking lot while Highwoods partners decide what to do with their extensive parking lot portfolio.
Story is still developing…stay tuned.
So I guess that’s what the earth mover is for…

Just in from where? ![]()
From the Dylan Business Journal.
I’m waiting for WRAL to report this, then we’ll have confirmation we are their source for DTR news.
“But sir, it was on Leo’s forum!”
Over/Under on 5 years until a building is complete on this site? I take the over
Don’t DO that to me. Give me heart attack. I live nearby.
Just listened to all 10 minutes of the Quarterly Downtown South Meeting. Not really much to report. Phase 0 which is the existing two warehouses, currently leasing office and retail for those spaces. Phase 1 has a 7 story mid rise 280 units with 12500 sf of retail, site planned approved, but looking for funding. As part of Phase 1 is the 60K sq ft music venue which is in site review and also looking for funding. So…looks like this is going to be a longer road to construction as we all anticipated and which they confirmed at this meeting.
Maybe a subtle reminder to hopefully a new city council in 6 weeks

Hotel preferences for DS? (If we could choose)
I think the Ritz-Carlton would be hilarious in little downtown Raleigh, but I probably should have voted for it because there’d be some great restaurant in it. Which means I would actually use the hotel in some capacity.
How are you going to vote for a Moxy @GucciLittlePig?
You have to give him some credit. He also voted for the right one. ![]()
