Really excited for this, love seeing the additional F&B/retail that’s opened on Fayetteville in the last 12 or so months. Listened to a podcast the other day that featured an interview with Rapillo, he’s opened things in a number of different areas, but is really focused on downtown proper currently. This would be a great add to the area.
Has anyone heard anything else about Voodoo Brewing opening on Fayetteville St.? It was announced in February but I haven’t heard anything else.
Voodoo Brewing offers franchising opportunities, so I guess someone bought themselves a franchise.
I walk by that space every week or so. Still completely empty and no work has been done.
There’s also no mention of this location on the website at all. Maybe it fell through for the franchisee.
The Asheville Voodoo Brewing location closed a couple of months ago too. Or at least changed concepts to a non-Voodoo franchise taproom.
Well this is disappointing to hear. I saw this and didn’t realize this was an old post. Voodoo would have been a big win here.
Photos of Live after 5 tonight
Photos of a closed Shish Kabob. Again let’s not forget the early closing of Fire Wok. Shout out to Element Gastropub for serving draft beer as an alternative to the canned beer in the tents.
Photos of the different bikes out and about tonight.
Lastly. I guess what could have been Voodoo brewing on the left.
Imagine running a restaurant in one of those boxes and NOT BEING OPEN during a well attended downtown event right outside your door…
So many restaurants seem (to this casual observer) to self-sabotage. This is one example, but also places that don’t serve lunch on weekends, places that close by 8 or 9pm, the lack of brunch options, places that aren’t consistently open…. If you can’t register in the public consciousness that you’re a reliable option, you’re going to lose out on so much business. It’s like a grocery store only stocking their best selling items and only being open for peak hours, and wondering why people go elsewhere.
This is just one of many events like that I’ve seen where those places were closed….it’s mind-boggling. They can’t claim they didn’t know about the opportunity—doesn’t the DRA have a calendar with all big downtown events listed?
For example, if I saw that next month, there would be 5 evenings where outdoor events would happen on my cafe’s block, I’d definitely see if I could schedule staff who need some extra hours, ahead of time, to open and try to make some sales.
Logic fails some folks I guess.
Right, and run a special combo deal or something and you’d guarantee a line of people waiting to grab dinner… they’re all right there!!!
Does anyone know how well the Lego store is doing? And we also have the Newsagent store opening soon? I hope they get enough traffic to stay open. I do not have any idea how much foot traffic is in those areas during the week as I only frequent DTR on the weekends. I am hoping both businesses have done their due diligence and see bright futures with brisk business. I really want them both to make it big! Any thoughts?
I don’t know numbers but I was in the Lego store one afternoon last week and it was full of people and all appeared to be making purchases. We did.
What’s happening? Replacing old siding? Updating the look?? Perhaps a new strip of seafoam green???
Latest update on the streetscape plan. There were a few “possible in the future” things proposed but the one thing that was discussed the most was the outdoor dining piece. Businesses want outdoor dining to be against the building, not on the other side of the walking path along the sidewalk.
Therefore, the city wants to go from the current setup, which is this:
to this:
There’s no budget for this yet. CM Lambert-Melton motioned to put it into his EDI committee for discussion as well as how to expedite the above. Other councilors also wanted to see this done already, “do the thing” was said multiple times by the mayor, Harrison, and Patton. So it sounds like there’s appetite for phase 1 which is basically:
Next to the business probably makes a bit more sense for larger streets like Fayetteville Street. I think the model where you have tables for the business farther out is typically for smaller sidewalks.
I don’t like how it the public loses out on accommodations and sidewalk width.
