When the separate parts get on ground it’s amazing how big they really are.

Wow that’s a tight construction zone. It’s lookin great! I wonder when the first residents can move in. Early spring?

With the crane removed the tower looks much more imposing on my walking commute to my office next door. Too much fog for a pic, sorry. This tower does help the Fayetteville corridor look less outdated.

Remember this? This was taken in Dec 2006. [Claimed by user that took photo, but looks to be circa 2008-2012]

With the work being done on the FNC plaza it looks like the skating rink may be a thing of the past. Anybody know if it’s going away?

2006? Do you mean 2016?

It looks like Dec 2008

According to the source on skyscraperpage, the user that took the photo says 2006.

“This is a photo I took Dec. 2006 of the site (on the right) with a crane still in place before work was halted:” - initiald

But you’re right it could not have been taken in 2006 as the Budget Airport Hotel wasn’t built until later.

Didn’t the Marriott hotel open in 2008?

Actually, I see an RBC logo up there so it has to be the late 2000s since the PNC buy happened in 2011.

That crane though was for Charter Square? That can’t be cause that went up in 2014.

Could the crane be for the below ground parking deck that sat idle for years?

That’s probably it. :+1:

It looks pretty nice now that it’s almost done. Really improves the skyline even though it’s short enough to be obscured from a few angles.

I suppose that they were presuming that the buildings would go up over that underground parking since the crane was so tall? If so, then this could be Christmas Season 2008 just after the collapse of the stock market.

That’s what I’m thinking because I drove down from Massachusetts January 1, 2009 and stayed at the newly opened Marriot and looked at the parking deck being dug out for what was supposed to be charter square. I had also been following the webcam for the RBC Tower being finished during 2008. That’s where my detective work is coming from. Lol

This is definitely not 2006, PNC had completed in 2008 not 2006
