A good friend of me and @pBeez ‘s used to own that building and we want it to be a bar so we can go toast him there. He’s not longer on earth with us.
The plans call for a bar and restaurant but do not list a formal name.
Well now I feel like a jerk for making my bad joke. But that’s a nice idea!
Don’t. It will end up being a good story.
His last name was Rudolph, you could do some great names with that as a bar name. I think he’d thrilled to have a bar named after him.
It’s more referential, but I like Reindeer Games.
This is slightly off-topic, but I have a general curiosity question. What’s so bad about Cornerstone? Like, honest personal opinions, why is it so hated here? I have only been one time, several years ago, and I was already high and don’t remember anything other than we didn’t stay long—or, maybe we did and it just didn’t feel like it had been long. I don’t remember any feeling anything particular about it either positive or negative, and anyway it’s been eons since I’ve been “out” or had the desire to. I just always wonder what makes a bar/nightclub popular or not.
LOVE the honesty… I think most of the negative vibe associated with Cornerstone are the patrons. You have either Freddy Frat Star or meatheads with tight affliction shirts and too much hair gel looking for a fight. Which makes you think why hasn’t Solas gotten the same ridicule? They seem to have more actual instances occur than cornerstone.
The term GELwood South didn’t come out of thin air
I went there once or twice with a group many years back and had a fun time. That’s actually kind of rare for me to go bar hopping with a group on Glenwood South. I think the issue is it’s one of those places that just wants to spend little effort to make a lot of money, so it packs in 20-somethings that like crappy beer and getting hammered. It’s not the kind of place to go on a date or have a conversation with your friend. I don’t have any particular issue with it, since those places need to exist. But it’s kind of like a 711: you can go hang out there, drink a 40 in the parking lot and eat one of their hot dogs…and some people do. And some people are gonna look at you, sigh, and shake their heads. Bottom line, it’s not exactly a local treasure that will be missed when it goes, and most people don’t love a horde of obnoxious drunks near them.
Also, @Drew there’s nothing wrong with hair gel. Some of us need it or we’d look like Carrot Top…
The two issues that I hear the most are: 1) outdoor noise, mostly amplified noise, though I think that has been negotiated to reduce it among those affected (510 Glenwood. Hampton Inn, Paramount, maybe the assisted living facility?) 2) the sloppy drunks that leave the place after the close. I personally have a story to share regarding the second item. A few years ago my car was parked on the street overnight in front of the Paramount because there was going to be a full garage cleaning the following morning in the part of the garage where I park, and we were asked to vacate our cars for that work. Well, a drunk driver smashed into the rear of my parked car and pushed it into the car in front of me. This nearly totaled my car. Unfortunately for the driver, he left a piece of his bumper lodged into the rear end of my car, and that piece just happened to have a vehicle serial number on the inside of the part on a sticker. They tracked him down and arrested him for hit and run. I don’t know if this particular guy was drinking at cornerstone or not, but it’s not a stretch to imagine that he had been.
Did you mean, “didn’t come out of thin hair”?
Yeah there’s nothing inherently wrong with Cornerstone, I just think all of us on this forum have aged out of that cohort. God knows I’d probably be there if I was still 24.
I’d likely be there too and buy you shots!
Next meet up at Cornerstone!
I’m down, also I’m not sure if anyone’s been paying attention but this will be the first Friday night where alcohol sales can go until 2am. Glenwood South is going to have quite the resurgence tonight! I might check it out just to see the debauchery.
I only “liked” your story because you got justice. Otherwise, that super blows.
Yeah, the whole thing sucked, but I still have that car, and some of its front end plastic parts look better than other cars of its vintage because my parts are newer. So, I try to look at the silver lining as I look backward.
Does it currently run?
