New tiki bar concept in the Creamery building.
The Ark Royal
Suite 350
‘Rhum Rhapsodies’… TIKI is exploration. It is adventure. It is discovery.
Did the owners of solas go bankrupt or something? It’s been closed since the beginning of quarantine last year… I think.
I haven’t seen that place open since I first moved here in 2009. I often wonder what it’s deal is. It used to be open for dinner and then club stuff every night more or less.
Maybe they only use it for private events?
Pretty sure it’s being renovated by the owner of Hibernian right now.
I worked an event at Solas the January before the world shut down. I’ve been seeing them do miscellaneous work there, so hopefully it opens soon. It’s too bad that building hasn’t been better utilized for public use. The rooftop deck is pretty sweet.
I’m also surprised C. Grace & Empress Room haven’t reopened.
Oh God… that’s sad
Define better utilized. I think the nightclub is a perfect idea for that place anything else would be pointless given the fact the building is the size of a twig.
Have you been inside? I’ll agree the curb presence makes it seem slender, but Solas is arguably one of the largest bar/restaurants on Glenwood south, behind maybe Ale House or Beer Garden.
They hold weddings and special events all the time, so converting over from a night club isn’t difficult.
Also Niall Hanley owning Solas is probably the best case scenario, sounds like he finally has time or available resources to begin renovations.
Everyone realizes that Solas has always been in Niall Hanley’s portfolio, right?
Solas means light in Irish. Mr. Hanley is an Irish immigrant.
I wasn’t saying that to say it was small I just wanted to know what he meant by better utilized. I love how it’s utilized now, it’s beautiful the way it is and doesn’t need to be renovated in any way beside maybe expansion.
It’s fantastic as a club, I’ve had some fun nights there! I could be wrong, but I feel like the the year leading up to Covid it was strictly being used as an event space or special one off events. Some weekends the space wasn’t even open and they never seemed opened up on weekdays.
I’d love to see it consistently be a nightclub during the weekend vs catering to weddings and all. But also a place I can go have a bite to eat on their rooftop during the week. The rooftop is so awesome.
Needs to be a software company’s office…time to tone down the cheese effect of Glenwood Avenue
Agreed an office needs all that foot traffic Glenwood South provides…
I don’t know who pushed you down the stairs but you need some more ice on your head.
When I first moved here, there were I think 2 or 3 places in Raleigh/Cary that were not sports bar type places, and I appreciated that about Solas, even if it wasn’t exactly my cup of tea, which is another way of saying I was ageing out of that scene lol.
More activity on Glenwood South. I think this is a renovation, but not sure as I can’t read the article. I just know that building changed hands recently and Halcyon was expecting a reno on the upper floors.
Reno with creative office on upper two levels. Retail main level.
This building already has Halycon, Raleigh Wine Shop, and Revolver Consignment Boutique. Hope this doesn’t boot out these businesses.
They dug up like a 10ft hole last month in the neighboring parking lot. Wonder if that pertained to this project.
