I’m thinking they’ll stain the wood but it hasn’t had long enough to cure
It definitely needs something more than a scattering of tables and chairs.
It’s a dive bar… Minimal and cheap is the point
Is this where the Office Tavern used to be? If so, it’s decidedly fancier than that place ever was!
Yes this is the former Office Tavern, and besides the name change, the first level and interior seem completely unchanged.
Also I believe the unstained wood is intentional, within a year or so it will weather and give the vibe of an old dock or pier.
Something like this :
Even if they completely forgot or ran out of money, they have a playground slide connecting both levels, this isn’t a place to take very seriously. It’s a dive bar, go check it out, the beers cold.
Maybe a future meetup locale since it’s outdoors?
Then you better suggest it in the Meet-Up thread!
I’m starting to think the old Snoopys on Hillsborough will become an extension of the Avenue bar next door.
I came to that conclusion once I saw the fencing and artificial turf connected to it. I can see this being the new Cornerstone once the old one is demolished.
Let’s all hope & pray that’s not the case though it appears to be accurate…Where’s the giant layer of cheese or is that just given?
Damn, was hoping that ugly gas station looking building would be demo’d and redeveloped 10+ stories sooner than later. Cannot imagine how a bar would be more profitable than a dense residential structure with retail on ground level…
Don’t tease me that way!
It’s not, I think this is just a land grab. Soon this guy will get an offer too good to ignore, sell, and the developer who buys will build a high-rise. Translation: his true business model is real estate; the bars are just placeholders. That’s my theory, anyway.
I heard over the last few days that the owner of the Snoopy’s building is going to do his own bar concept there. I’m guessing it’ll be more the caliber of Dram vs Cornerstone.
Holy Solas…
This is now going to be Three different establishments.
First floor will be the Botanical Lounge
Second floor will be the Sage Room
Third floor will be the Highgarden rooftop lounge.
The article says it will open in late September.
OK, this is f**king sweet. SUCH an improvement.
Heck yeah, looks incredible. Two dope looking rooftops coming to DTR in the same month. My Raleigh dreams coming true!
We need more Niall Hanley projects downtown, less of the cheap stuff the Cornerstone guy does.
Wow! I had forgotten about that place a decade ago. Looks great!
Looks nice. I hope this will be a bar that is open to the public, and not just an event space. It kind of sounds like the second floor will be for events, but is not entirely clear. The logo for the rooftop says “Highgarden Rooftop Event Space.”
