“Turnbridge plans to begin work on the towers by the middle of next year and expects to complete construction in 2024, Davis said.” More cranes in Raleigh!!
Wow sooner than I thought! This is going to make me debate renewing my lease at The Line next year, due to the fact that the construction will be right outside my window. It would be really fun to watch the construction, but will have to debate if the construction noise/vibrations would be worth it.
Yes! But still about a footballs throw away (if Tom Brady is throwing). They did some roof work on the original creamery building earlier this year and could definitely hear the construction noise.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m absolutely pumped about this project! But I also like sleep and usually sleep in until 9:30-10am due to my line of work.
Aren’t there a few people here that live at 400 West? If so what was your experience like during the construction of Smoky Hollow phase 2?
I live across the street from the Cabarrus Street project and it wasn’t too terribly awful until this past Saturday when they decided it was a good idea to start running the mother of all jackhammers at 7am on the dot. It literally shook us awake.
They pretty much start working right at 7am most weekdays but that was the first time they did it on a weekend. Zero stars, do not recommend.
We’re used to trains, but the construction noise is a little different. The best thing so far, though, was the air admittance valve for our downstairs bathroom gurgling whenever cars drove over the steel plate covering an open hole on Cabarrus Street for several weeks. It took a while to figure out what was causing the noise.
We lived at 400W during most of the SmoHo I/II construction and it wasn’t bad, but we also got a parking deck to “block” most of the construction (and view).
Personally stoked about the Creamery project and that’s influenced our decision to keep that condo while the area continues to appreciate.
I moved out of The L just in time to avoid the HGI going up on Davie, and this is how the city thanks me In all seriousness, the interior (Hollow-facing) units at The Line have been great at blocking street noise, but the pedestrian events do bounce echos off the facades of both buildings. Nothing you can really do about it, but it’s not a nuisance or anything.
That beige wall reminds me of the wall of Trinity Commons apartments on Erwin Road in Durham. Except they put the most tragic mural I’ve ever seen on theirs. Here’s a look from google street view.
I’ll add to this and say that the construction companies worked hard to minimize the impact on the residents. When the 24hr concrete pours were happening, they let us know in advance. It was a lot of fun to watch.
Ah finally read the whole piece. I was wonder why this project is expected to go up so fast and now I see they are flush with cash from selling that mall property in Cary to Epic Games. haha
Hello all this Robert and I am new to this forum and Raleigh. I live downtown and I am looking forward to watching this project grow from inception. I like the direction this project is going from what I have seen in this thread. From what I can tell, the firm specializes in maintaining historical buildings and integrating structure in and around the protected site. The Samsung building in the meat packing district in NYC is an example…
