I think this qualifies for this thread since it is in the same block. I’ve never noticed this establishment before.
I think the Watts & Ward folks were behind this one. Tiki bar theme throughout on the interior, got a pretty large patio for where it’s at. I’d have to give it another shot as the one time I went with my wife after dinner my drink was awful but my wife’s was delicious.
Yep…characters and umbrellas…
I follow them on Instagram but I honestly never took the time to figure out where it is. I assumed it’s another bar aimed at crowds of early 20s kids.
Also follow them on Instagram and have been meaning to check them out. The drinks look fantastic. They kinda just popped up out of nowhere one day.
I kind of kept confusing it with Wonderland https://www.wndland.com/ which seems to be fairly crappy but pretty to look at, and Lagoon Bar which I just realized is actually in BoxyardRTP.
I need to get out more and try new things…
It’s one of the two owners from Watts and Ward (Niall Hanley isn’t involved). Can’t vouch for the drinks, I only get beer, they’re less likely to screw those up.
Ahh, good to know. I just remember hearing it had something to do with similar ownership. Which was one of the reasons we tried it, as Watts & Ward is one of my favorite spots.
@GucciLittlePig yes, as someone in their early 30s I felt old in there
I’m liking this project more and more. Any ideas what they might do with the parcel on the east side of the tracks?
There is a lot I really like about these plans. Two things I don’t - surprise surprise, that parking deck screening is awful. Just awful. And what the heck is Woonerf? I am not the smartest tool in the shed, but I can’t even pronounce that!! Woo-nerf? Woon-erf? Please.
The rest looks pretty darn terrific!
Woonerf is a sort of shared space for all modes of travel to mingle, sort of like City Plaza on Fayetteville St.
Right. But really the only part of the project that is a true woonerf is the plaza next to the residential tower. The section between the parking/office building and the Creamery is really just a pedestrian passageway.
Ok, I thought I hated the parking deck screening. Now, I think I detest it.
"The tall chevron cables abstractly recall the historic Pine State pine tree logo; "
Nothing! (I hope.) Sell, or donate, it to the city, or NCDOT, for high speed rail (please.)
ohhhhhh maaaaaan that parking deck is ATROCIOUS. It honestly ruins this entire project for me. The buildings are GREAT, the planned retail and pedestrian plazas are GREAT, the preservation of the Creamery building is FANTASTIC. That parking deck is MONUMENTALLY bad. It literally looks like a giant prison wall. UNREAL

It’s almost offensive- “Sure, we’ll promise to preserve the historic corner building in our redevelopment! but we’re gonna fking absolutely dwarf it with the biggest, ugliest giant blank grey wall of nothing we possibly can”
Thanks @Christopher I looked it up after your tip, and I finished reading the pdf, because all this paper work my Dean is looking for can wait, don’t ya know.
I like the concept of the woonerf. I still dislike the name, lol. But as others have said, their money, their design, their names. As a broke prof I am relegated to just being a crank. I am the guy on the left.

Like this shit honestly has the most evil dystopian corporate overlord vibe to it I’ve ever seen proposed in this city, MY GOD. Where’s RoboCop???
Sure the parking deck isn’t ideal, but seems fine to me
