Highline Glenwood and 404 Glenwood at The Creamery

The first building is always lonely, and SmoHo III is right around the corner.

No, will not impact my views.

If there’s going to be a 40 story tower on that corner, then how it’s designed matters A LOT. Clearly, the building will be slender (not a bad thing), and if it’s mostly residential, then there’s an opportunity for it to be interesting with a facade that has movement among indoor and outdoor spaces as it ascends.

Eh North York, Ontario Canada has a street lined with more than 30 different 30+ story towers next door to single family housing and it’s not the end of the world for them and it doesn’t look that crazy. Plus Raleigh is going to be jammed backed with tower eventually so Glenwood South won’t be the edge of downtown but right in the middle eventually.

That’s a big boy! (this is my comment for every large-ish building that comes down the pipeline now lol)

Fayetteville Street 2060??? Lol

If David Cox has his way. I’m all for a radial downtown.

What do you mean by David Cox having his way? You’ve piqued my interest!

He only likes tall buildings if they’re on Fayetteville St

Ah, thanks. Well, that’s a really small minded approach to the city center of one of the fast growing and emerging cities in the country!
I imagine the majority of high rises in the city in an H pattern with Fayetteville anchoring the east side of the H, West/Harrington anchoring the east side of the H, and Hillsborough street being the connector of the H. That said, I don’t think that those are the only places that they should be, but that’s where I envision most of them going.

That is somewhat how Charlotte is laid out. Instead of one street, in this case Tryon, Church, and College is the main cluster intersecting with trade and 4th with graham at the other end completing the H, creating a large, dense cityscape. With that being said, I think our architecture can be a lot more unique than Charlottes plain white and light blue.

Btw, the COA voted this evening to approve this rezoning request so on to Planning Commission!

The Glenwood South Neighborhood Collaborative (GSNC) is conducting a survey to gauge community views on the proposed 40-story zoning amendment for this site. Please feel free to complete the survey at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/B85PSXY

again a 20 floor building longer than it is tall in the massing

those kinds of buildings aren’t doing the skyline favors

Frankly, I can’t take this survey because I do want the density and I do want the height, but that squatty proposal is just a lift and shift of 301H on steroids. No thank you!
Also, how come there’s nothing about the corner of Glenwood and North in the massing diagram?

The massing is just what would be without the approval. The survey is still worth taking to voice your opinion and there’s a free form box for more than just answering their canned options.

I’ll give it another shot. Let me go back and look more carefully.

FWIW the layout here reminds me a lot of One City Plaza in Greenville, SC, which has been a massive success at least in its capacity as a public space.

I just lied and said I live/work on Glenwood and want to see it approved. Easy enough.

I should have said live and work, instead of just live, since I WFH.
