Well looks like standard model SMSFL-201 from fountain catalog.
(Short height, Multi nozzle, Splashing, Flat surface, Lighted)
All I’m going to say is good luck with saying that the park is closed when it’s wide open.
At least it will provide some excellent Affordable Housing. I wonder where the best place is to set up an encampment?
NOT on top of the “water feature”. Thought that might be nice on a hot day after a run!
Although the design is reportedly underwhelming compared to the initial concept for Moore sq, and construction was delayed massively, I am really happy with the improvements. I expect development around Moore square well happen sooner rather than later. It’s a gorgeous view walking out of adjacent buildings.
Looks like the rumored-to-be cafe will end up being a burger restaurant called Square Burger. I think this is a great idea, they also went Carolina style with the menu.
“The burger stand plays the hits, with a menu of hamburgers, hot dogs, milkshakes and fries. There’s the requisite Carolina burger and hot dog, dressed with chili, slaw, mustard and onions. Beyond the standards, look for salads, grilled cheese, veggie burgers and grilled chicken sandwiches.”
Says they will be open this Saturday during the grand opening, and here is the best part:
“The square will have outdoor seating, and the burger stand will sell beer and wine.” !
These burgers better be literally square. Square patties, square buns… square tomatoes.
Fits perfect with Raleigh’s square image!
Burgers are boring IMO but you gotta give the people what they want. I would have preferred a trendy coffee shop and add some flavor (and edge) with food carts in the evenings
42 & Lawrence is literally 414.76 feet away?
I think it’s their vision of things being very family orientated, with attractions like the splash pad, and treehouse. It’s difficult to rationalize a trendy coffee shop to any kid under 12, but a milkshake with hotdog and fries will sell every time.
Yeah. Food for the masses is what should do well there and I’d love to see it busy. Plus, so many other great places nearby.
Indeed, busy would seem to be a major consideration for a public square. People like to be where others are. Approachable too, one wants something that folks feel comfortable using. Food/drinks can be intimidating, not just to picky children but many adults.
This also fits J. Michael Welton’s theme on the square - democracy. For those of you who didn’t see it, do check it out. It gives a comprehensive review of what Raleighites are about to get. For those of you without a subscription, you are only 2 days away from your free views resetting! This is definitely worth the read.
What’s up with the oblong tables, are they getting chairs or benches?
This addition to the park sounds great! So much stuff happening (or soon to be happening) in Raleigh makes me homesick and want to move back.
You guys mentioned square burgers?
I wonder if they serve beer or if we’re allowed to drink in the park. Probably not.
God the best thing about Europe (most of, but not all of it) is the freedom to pop an ice cold beer you bought at the store and just sit in a park and drink it and it’s completely normal.
So much for being a ‘free’ country, eh?
I think as long as you put it in a paper bag it’s legal.
(This post does not constitute legal advice)
Yeah. That was totally nice. People just crack a beer in a public space and no one even glances at them.
