NCSU Developments

Shameless plug, but I write a post for the Red & White Network every couple of months - Life on Campus at NC State - where I detail out some of the new projects and ongoing construction on/around campus. Just published a February post this morning outlining a number of NCSU-related topics.

Writing these helps me keep my mind off the ongoing MBB season.

I wonder what they mean by rerouting Dan Allen?

Pushing vehicles to the perimeter to make it more pedestrian focused.

eliminating that cut-through campus will certainly make the campus more pedestrian friendly, though when I’ve walked through the campus, I don’t necessarily find Dan Allen as dangerous for pedestrians as places off campus on the edges.

Construction pic update for the Integrative Sciences Building (finishing next year), which will be called Woodson Hall.

It’s supposed to “provide space for groundbreaking teaching and research, transforming the sciences at NC State by uniting a community of interdisciplinary scholars — including chemists, biologists, physicists, engineers and mathematicians — to create new kinds of molecules, to image and visualize molecules, and to develop technologies that use these molecules to address society’s most pressing human, animal and plant health challenges.”

why isn’t this red brick? I mean, when you are so deep into a theme it is foolish to try to pull out of it.

Stopped by on my way to the WBB game against ND on Sunday. Really going to change how the Brickyard feels, but excited to see this completed. First new building to be constructed on main campus in a long while.

Dabney & Cox - located behind where Woodson Hall will be - are my two least favorite looking buildings and campus. Was hoping they’d just raze those as part of this project as well, but guess I’ll have to keep waiting for that.

When I’m building a tall building overlooking an iconic public square, my first instinct is to make sure it has the smallest, saddest windows possible

I’m trying to remember when my early classes began at State, and I’m thinking that they were at 7:50 back in the day when the world was in black and white. I could be wrong and getting this confused with high school.

When I was in college we used to have to walk a mile up a steep hill in the snow to get to class.

I’m actually not kidding :joy::sob:

And then walk a mile uphill back from class as well!

We also took a walk around Centennial Campus. I love the collection of various styles of buildings over there. I always kind of forget about this area of Raleigh.

I never really cared for how this area seems like an island from the rest of their campus and the city. If it were better connected to the regular campus grid and had more dense housing (non-student housing and dorms) between the two areas… I’d feel differently.

I hope their campus master plan comes to fruition.

I kind of like how it feels like this oasis. I remarked how I felt like I wasn’t even in Raleigh. I could see that being annoying if I was a student though.

We went to a Thursday night show at The Corner last summer and it was a great experience. Brought camping chairs and you could bring your own cooler for beverages (also served beers on site). Food truck was serving mexican fare as well. Checked the calendar and theres nothing upcoming but highly recommend if an event pops up!
