Speaking of acoustics, I expect them to get worse.
You know MAB and half the city council pretty well. Could you talk to them about this before itās too late?
I thought youād never ask!
While weāre at it, let me know what color you want the new gondola to be that will connect the new Red Hat Amp to Dix and Downtown South.
I have to imagine for most concerts, people donāt go for the acoustics, they go for the chance to see their favorite bands, feel connected with them, and enjoy the vibe with fellow fans.
Itās like when people said mp3s wouldnāt catch on because the sound quality wasnāt as good as CDs - it turns out thatās pretty low on most peopleās lists beyond a certain bar.
Iāll still go see them, but Iāve seen several bands there over the years that Iāve seen before, and it just doesnāt sound that good. It was acceptable because it was a temporary sort of venue. But if the city is going to put all the effort into moving it and closing streets, etc, I would hope theyād try to make it the best they reasonably can.
Also, my mp3s are 320 kbps at least.
I get your point, but I donāt agree with the analogy. No average person, or even most audiofiles would be able to determine one source from another (vinyl vs MP3). The acoustics at the current venue are not just marginally off, theyāre not good. Add 2 more walls for the sound to bounce off/around and I expect itās going to be noticeably worse. We arenāt a high target city for concerts and bands to have a say in where they play. Bands donāt like Red Hat where it stands today and so, I donāt expect that to change with 2 more walls either.
I guess my biggest question is, are the planners/designers/architects even considering this?
Iām confused. I thought they were going to have larger and permanent concession stands? Looks like its just a small plaza area where they would setup food trucks and carts?
Can you share the link for the plans, I canāt seem to find it lol.
Meh, I continue to be neither impressed nor amused by this plan. Short sighted.
ā1792 William Christmas grid plan? PFFT. We need an amphitheater that is right next to the convention center, not a block further south!ā
This is one of a few spots in the entire state where the NCRR corridor is less than 200ā wide, and NCRR often tries to acquire property to widen the corridor where they can. To be honest I think 200ā is excessive for this location east of the wye, and that the corridor is probably wide enough as it is - but Iām still not sure how that would play out here in the long run.
In my experience most Christmas plans end with people getting frustrated and shouting, so this tracks
Another picture of the seats, I was hoping for a larger lawn area, but look how much more seating there is. This is awesome, no one ever uses South St
.
I like the fact that this will be a more āpermanentā feeling venue, but really interested to see more about the plans of how it all fits into that area. TBH, Iām just glad theyāre keeping it downtown.
I would prefer a larger lawn area though than whatās currently shown in the plans. Feel like I end up on the lawn at a lot of shows at Red Hat even when I have seated tickets unless Iām in the first 20 or so rows.
Iām with you. Losing parks from the original plan was bad (sigh, Caswell Square), but this block of South Street isnāt anything to get mopey about.
And having Red Hat downtown permanently versus a temporary venue that could get yanked at any time is incredible.
Very curious about the elevation differences between stage, seating, bench seating, and lawn. Hoping for at least 25ā of elevation change, and ideally more like '35
I almost just took a pic of me and several other cars waiting for the light to not use South Street.
Hey thanks, Is that the entire side profile? Or just the seated section?
The whole amphitheater.
