Horrible. Getting flashbacks from the Metropolitan fire.
You would think with Station 1 right down the street that a fire like that in a fully constructed building wouldnât be able to get that out of hand.
Came down to investigate and it looks like they got it under control. It looked bad from the pics online but I donât smell any smokeâŚcrazy (the sign looks good btw).
They just mentioned on WRAL that it was / is a natural gas incident. No injuries.
Smoke was bad at the height of the fire you could even smell it inside the hallways in the Maeve. But they had 10 fire trucks and a lot of water. Thank the Lord it didnât get out of hand. Guess we will see how bad the damage is but itâs under control at least. You could tell it was the HVAC units from where they were directing all their efforts
CoR spokesperson on WRAL said that thereâs no interior damage. Sounds like everything happened on the roof.
that is good and will be a replacement of HVAC unit maybe instead of a months long renovation that could have closed the convention center. Kudos to the Raleigh FD for putting it out quickly.
WTVD says the fire is out.
It wonât be quick, but it could have been a lot worse!
Before anyone starts blowing this out of proportion and spreading misinformation, read this from the News & Observer:
Wow, great job by RFD on containing this quickly. Hopefully the inspections go well today.

2 alarm Working Fire Last night at 2130 hours, dispatch received numerous calls in reference to smoke and flames coming from the roof of the Raleigh Convention Center. After exiting the bay of their downtown firehouse, Ladder 1 notified dispatch of seeing a large header. Ladder 1 arrived on scene and promptly set up for aerial operations. Engine 1 and 13 arrived seconds later and began the initial fire attack on the roof. The fire, which ran the entire length of the roof, was found to be gas fueled after the initial investigation by Engine 1. It took crews roughly 40 minutes to bring the fire under control and there are no injuries to report.
Phenomenal work by every member that was on scene of this fire. Your hard work and dedication to the city has not got gone unnoticed. The Local 548 is proud to serve the citizens of Raleigh.

No not at all!
Itâs just that people here have a bad habit of looking at pretty pictures without paying attention to the details - and some people might mistake the artworkâs lighting as a part of the fire (see the article quote). The shade is not towards you; itâs to the people who react first and think later.
one thing about this time of year and conventions is that it is a slower time for conventions and meetings due to Thanksgiving and Christmas. That being said the city needs to work overtime to get this convention center fully operational as quick as possible. You know their phones are blowing up this morning from convention planners with events in the next few months.
I have (had?) an event at the convention center next week!
My company used to have our holiday party at the convention center, but then Covid and now theyâre too cheap to do anything fun
Watching the afternoon session of council and the mayor gave a brief verbal update saying that there were some interior sprinklers that were activated by the fire, and that affected the kitchens and perishables. She also said that the cybersecurity conference that was to start tomorrow is being relocated to other venues. Thatâs about it.
