Raleigh Union Station and RUSbus Facility / Union West

There’s the bus station, and then there’s the actual good stuff (apartments, hotel, offices, red pedestrian bridge, etc.) that all got scrapped or downgraded. Funny enough, we had drinks at La Terrazza last night and they had renderings in the upstairs lobby overlooking this project…the original beautiful renderings that are now just a sad reminder. I almost tossed them down the elevator shaft out of despair but held it together.

You should’ve done it

You are essentially correct. No idea what the hell is going on with this disappointment of a project, and they won’t tell us lmao

It’s actually just gonna be a bus station with a parking deck on top now. :upside_down_face:

Am I the only one who remembers the project website saying 2025 to begin with? The latest design update made on their site also had a caption saying 2025 or 2026 was when the tower was supposed to start.

Imagine this tower, the Legends tower and Creamery all being erected at the same time. A trio of skyline game changers! I expect we’ll also see the Omni hotel in the same timeframe.

“A GoTriangle representative said the project is also on budget and hasn’t experienced any delays. Eggleston attributes that to the partnership with the City of Raleigh and the ability to change the way the project is being delivered. That includes allowing permitting for Hoffman and Associates’ side of the project, Union West, to move forward even though the developer is waiting for market conditions to improve.” - from TBJ article earlier this week.

Permitting is proceeding for 23 story apartments so that construction may start in 2025. Rusbus to open mid 2025 and will not be affected by apartment construction. Apartment portion, like most projects, is awaiting rate cuts.

I’m wondering how much bike parking will be included and if there is going to be a bike
rental stop on-site :thinking::bike:

What do you call a city with a BRT station but no BRT?

You do realize that RUS Bus is not a ‘BRT station’, right?

I can confirm with 100% certainty that Union Deli makes an insanely good pastrami sandwich.

Interest rates dropped. Do y’all think the residential tower will get going?

There’s gonna be more rate cuts for the foreseeable future. I don’t know why anything would start now when they could wait 6 months and get lower rates.

Didn’t think we’d get traffic signals at Hargett and West but here we are. Is this necessary? There’s another one at West/Martin.

Or maybe they’re about to hang some serious string lights. :hugs:

It might be for bus priority signaling :man_shrugging:t4:
