Oh I know you didn’t create the drawing lmao - I was just pointing out that as big as it looks in the drawing, it will likely end up looking EVEN bigger IRL! Which is amazing! Can’t wait for this to start building. Then:
CAM/Raleigh HQ block redevelopment
West St tunnel extension
Kane “Clancy& Theys” site redevelopment
Bloc 83 Phase 3 (and onward)
400 Hillsborough finally getting started
along with RUSbus will potentially make the Warehouse District feel like the most dense part of the entire city, while also connecting it to the CBD proper.
One question though, does this mean that cool glass cone/cylinder between the buildings has been scrapped? Now it looks like “The Court” is between the buildings which seems to just be a courtyard…
Long time lurker on the forums…first time poster. I think the PDF here might help you visualize what the tower(s) might look like in comparison to the Dillon. I’m surprised no one had posted this earlier, but here is an assessment report prepared from January 2021. The whole PDF is a good read (if you’re bored), but the glorious pictures begin around page 33.
How’d you find out about this? I’m surprised I’ve never seen this report before, either, since it was never a part of Raleigh, CAMPO, or GoTriangle’s online public records.
Not sure, but the labels for “the Court” and other transit-adjacent elements say we’re supposed to “reference transit and architectural drawings for inside the transit facility”. The cover sheet says there are more drawings that just didn’t get uploaded as a part of the PDF. I think those drawings may have the answer, but we’ll have to wait for the full submission to get uploaded.
That note seems to just be referring to the street/hardscape treatment; these drawings look pretty clear about that area being exterior space on the ground level. I imagine it’ll be an outdoor area that receives some really nice landscaping and seating arrangements.
The elevation shows it as open on the ground level with some kind of screening above. So the glass cone is no more, which is not at all surprising. I kind of figured it was never really part of the design anyway – I think I said back in January that that rendering screamed “I haven’t actually been designed but the architects are trying to sell the big idea" lol
That was pretty much my interpretation of the drawings as well. Maybe in addition to the screening there will be some kind of covering that provides partial shade and protection from the elements.
I was dubious that the Cone would be built, but was really hoping it would. Would be nice if the overlooks from the old renderings survive. The new drawings make it look like there is at least one.
As exciting all this is, I really doubt it’ll be built to full potential. Not to be a downer but we were all so very excited about 121Fayetteville and it fell through. At this point in DT, until it breaks ground, no getting my hopes up.
Holy shit! Considering this is subject to all sorts of federal and NCDOT monies that @keita can probably breakdown off hand, I’m feeling pretty confident this is actually going to move forward and shape our skyline!
Way ahead of you there Deadlines for construction are baked into contracts between GoTriangle, the City, and the DoT as a part of our federal grant award.
