Show Off Things From Other Cities

A tower like that, you’ll pretty much just see the base from the ground and the tower section from the air or at a distance.

I like it, it’s good solid filler height between the standout towers.

…and sadly the renderings usually make it look better and taller than it actually is in real life. If we can’t stand the render, it’s really gonna be a stinker.

Not how you do urbanizism, Durham but at least it’s something.

I disagree, this area is in downtown and there are plenty of urban streets like this in San Francisco and Seattle. Better this than a bunch of SF townhomes.

Exactly it’s downtown, which is why there shouldn’t just be a bunch of Texas donuts without active ground floor uses creating completely dead streetscapes. Buildings like these belong in the suburbs.

Ithaca, NY (Cornell)
Some good classic architecture, and a @GucciLittlePenguin mural. Don’t know who that other guy is. Not thrilled about that… :pig:

Helsinki isn’t the most bustling of European cities. Its metro is less populated than the Triangle, but it does have a real downtown. When I go there, I am in the burbs of Espoo mostly or on the Baltic Sea coast at the family Summer home.
I’d recommend doing nature things and picking wild blueberries. It’s like a national pastime. I’d also hit a sauna by the sea to enjoy the hot and then the dunk in the chilly sea while drinking beer.

Apparently the Finger Lakes are trying to get a new flag out there, kind of like Raleigh is with our unofficial flag.

Btw my take on this was local pride and a desire to be less partisan. Maybe I am naive. But they had pride shirts and LGBTQ staff, and everyone was very nice. Didn’t get a dog whistle vibe or anything

Part of the Emerald Necklace in Boston:

There were countless community gardens, not many fountains, and a few recreational areas.

This is a street near Northeastern University. If Fayetteville St. is never converted back to a street for people, it should at least look like this:

Also, a housing development like this be built near Moore Square, Shaw (redevelopment), or warehouse district:

Did not get the chance to take many pictures, as I was driving, but we drove through Buffalo today. My first time actually in the city. We were absolutely blown away at not just all of the amazing older architecture downtown, but the endless array of beautiful, colorful houses. We actually made a detour on our trip just to drive through, but I would definitely come back and stay in the city next time I’m out this way.

The 3 I got are a Frank Lloyd Wright house, a Frank Lloyd Wright boathouse, and a hotel in the semi-ruined/semi-restored Richardson Olmsted Campus.

GO BILLS!!! Re: City Hall; it’s possibly the most beautiful and elegant City Hall in the entire country. Fun Fact: a man once committed suicide by jumping off the top of Buffalo’s City Hall, and ended up being impaled down a flagpole at the bottom.

You are damn right you were blown away. Buffalo f-ing rules. Lived in Parkside/North Buffalo for many years. I’d give a testicle to move back but unfortunately I have a business here and a wife who doesn’t want to move for some reason.

Remember that like it was yesterday. Ahhh, the good ol’ days…

Edit: I actually wasn’t born yet when this happened. What was I thinking? :man_shrugging:

Meanwhile Niagara Falls, ON is a city that has it all: a great skyline, an observation tower, activated streets, and a water feature! And the culture! :pinched_fingers:

I lived in Buffalo for a short while many moons ago. Great town. Awesome people. A very underrated city in my opinion.

Niagra Canada is nice, Niagra USA is a dump. We went a few months ago, that part of Upstate NY is surprisingly nice and scenic. Raced at Area 51 outside of Buffalo which was epic.

If you’re still in the area stop by Rochester, it was surprisingly fun to jump around downtown and the ports off Lake Ontario. We will come back, especially the race, I rode well.

I was in Denver recently and had the chance to visit Meow Wolf. It’s an indie art exhibit that is properly surreal. Currently has locations in Santa Fe, Las Vegas, and Denver with new ones coming to Dallas and LA.

If we’re cool enough for Alamo Drafthouse, how about one of these?
