Show Off Things From Other Cities

the horror… the HORROR!!!

It’s amazing, every night the restaurants put the tables away in storage and the street is usable by delivery vehicles, and then around wine time they bring the tables back out. Simply mind-blowing

Had a similar experience in Annecy, France.

Access for delivery vehicles in the morning:

Pedestrian only streets are the way to go :man_shrugging:t4:, they’re environmentally friendly and encourage people to walk to their destinations

Not saying the artwork on the Peace St Bridge won’t be amazing if it ever gets installed, but…

Austin has a real condo market. Austin’s next tallest is also a condo project. When was the last condo tower built in downtown Raleigh?

I was like wow the skyline from Dix Park looks pretty good! Then remembered the subject heading… Sigh

Its amazing that there is not a single building I recognize from hanging around Austin a lot in the 90s. It looks like they were all built by the same design & build team. Everyone one of those buildings is white concrete and blue glass. I am less then impressed. I would like to see it for myself, so anyone who wants to fly me out there to prove me wrong just contact me directly.

It looks like that. I thought I would like Austin more, but bad sign ordinance and huge interstate with service roads not the prettiest place.

I’m a huge fan of Austin! I attended Austin city limits right where you are standing. The bar scene on Rainey St. can get a little hectic, but still fun. I usually go to attend the Formula 1 race down at Circuit of the Americas which is a must see facility. On my list when I go back is the Austin Surf Park, which looks awesome!

I agree. Once you get out of the core, the unregulated sprawl and apparent lack of zoning or any ordinance makes it look just like Houston, which is NOT a compliment!

Same here. I have a whole Texas travel itinerary laid out and it involves a stop there. I have a history of travelling to some of the best surf spots on the planet when they are absolutely flat. Can’t do that here!

If you beat me there, let me know how it is. I’m sure riding a perfectly consistent 100 yard wave would be incredible. We actually scored some pretty decent waves this weekend on Wrightsville Beach, you just have to hawk the surf reports.

Not quite the same but wake surfing (surfing on the wave created by the boat in front of you) is a fun alternative possible on the NC lakes

Heck yea, big fan of wakesurfing too, although I’m not very good at it yet. Here’s a picture I took at Lake Powell in Utah of my buddy who’s really good at it.

All my old friends back on the outer banks have been blowing up Instagram with pictures from the past few weeks. I’m not jealous.

I wonder if anyone can bring a wave park to Raleigh area? Aside from the large amount of property needed it doesn’t seem like a hugely expensive project to realize. I believe Richmond, VA has plans for one in the pipeline.

I know Raleigh is getting ‘the world’s largest’ racquet sports complex:

“We’re the biggest in the world. This will be the single largest multi-racquet sport complex in the world.” developer Rob Autry said Wednesday.

Resurrecting the green high rise concept we’ve discussed in various threads on this forum. This is the ultimate green high rise concept!
