I was in Wilmington a few days ago and saw this restaurant in downtown. I love the idea of private balcony tables! It would be so neat to see this more often.
Been there and had dinner out there also. Whatâs great about cool spaces like that is when I tell people, " that place in DT wilmington with the balconies" they know exactly what Iâm talking about. Those small details certainly add character that can create a memorable experience.
Iâm actually going to Wilmington in a week and a half and picking out restaurants at the moment. I know this place instantly. Not the most amazing place, but love the balcony tables! I always try to stop in for a beer and a snack at least. It looks like itâs been repainted since Iâve been there last.
Iâd be interested in knowing the status of the fairly massive construction they had going near the waterfront last time I was there over a year ago, should you have the opportunity to check it out. :-).
I just got back a couple weekends ago, if your referring to this condo project, its basically completed with residents moving in and the first commercial tenant last week. Go check it out either way, downtown is really coming around.
I wonder if Iâm gonna recognize downtown! Itâs been over 3 years since Iâve been. Thatâs quite the project. Definitely some better restaurants than I remember in Wilmington now.
for a relatively compact downtown, this project and the fact that PPD has their HQ downtown really make an impact. I enjoy DTW, thought honestly I never make it much past Front St Brewing, lol.
Itâs honestly one of the most under appreciated downtownâs we have in NC. Now granted in college we always avoided downtown unless it was a known bar that wouldnât ID. East and South of downtown had very high crime rates, but has completely changed in the last decade. There are some really cool historic buildings they were able to save including the Cotton Exchange, Court House, and basically everything on Water Street, plus itâs enjoyable to eat dinner and stare at that massive battleship across the river.
Theres some new-ish (new to me since I moved away in 2000) development south of downtown Wilmington thatâs pretty interesting as well.
New Anthem and Bennyâs are worth the visit !
I love any city/area with a vibrant waterfront and Wilmington has a good one for a relatively small city. I go to Sunset Beach pretty often and always like to stop in Wilmington on the way back and the more progress for this city, the better, as long as itâs done tastefully.
That must be it! Looks great. When I was there it was just mostly just steel framing. Canât wait to check it out.
Iâll send you my itinerary
Seconded. Lots of fantastic historic homes adjacent to the retail/mixed use areas. I lived in the c.1906 home at the corner of 16th and Market in 2012 and really enjoyed the grid from 16th all the way to Front. Many fantastic memories playing/attending shows at The Whiskey, The Soapbox, Calico Room, Duck n Dive, Satellite, Ortonâs, and the revolving door that at one point was Ziggyâs by the Sea. We had a thriving music and art scene DTW '10-'14. Some of the places donât exist anymore unfortunately, but great memories are enjoyed still. Discovered many craft beers at Cape Fear Wine and Beer, sandwiches at Chops, oh and the Brooklyn Arts Center - what a great historic church turned venue. Itâs definitely got itâs rough areas but DTW was a fantastic hub for me and many friends in college.
While on the subject of Wilmington (I agree with Drew and Evan, itâs absolutely one of the best downtowns in NC), there were also a few blocks in downtown closed off to cars for public space and outdoor dining, which was great to see.
I used to live in Wilmington and I love their downtown area. Itâs sort of a weird city though in that you have this urban vibrant downtown, but then a lower income/higher crime neighborhood to the east, and then to the east of that an extremely wealthy and nice neighborhood, and then UNCW. I lived there 5 years ago though and donât really go often (another Sunset Beach person haha) so Iâm sure things have changed.
St. Petersburg, Florida just got some pretty cool art by Janet Echelman. Would love to see something unique like this in downtown somewhere or maybe at Dorothea Dix?
I had no clue until just now while researching the artist. She has a piece in downtown Greensboro. I need to get out of Raleigh more often.
Greensboro is trying hard. Just does not have population growth.
Yeeeeeessssssss!
