Durham gets another tower project. This time 25 stories.

To note, there’s a 27 story tower planned and now this one at 25 stories. I wonder if DX-20 zoning is really hampering Raleigh from getting any mid-20 story projects? We have almost none.

How come it is that we see announcements for similar sized towers in Durham and act like Raleigh is somehow lacking when we have our own announcements of towers like RUSBus and at 400 Glenwood that are as tall or taller?
Raleigh is going to be fine, especially with the slew of rezonings that happened over the last few years.

Plus Durham doesn’t have a North Hills equivalent. Or even an Iron Works do they?

We’re good.

Plus most of us live in Raleigh, so that right there is game over.

Apparently this new building in Durham is right next to the big blue glass building that for a long time was basically the entire Durham skyline. Shocked to see it’s only 14 stories, and hilarious if a building nearly twice as tall is going to be next it, completely dwarfing it.

When DTSouth takes off, Raleigh will have 2 midtown equivalents. It’s easy to imagine Raleigh going the way of Atlanta when it comes to a skyline with it strung along somewhat loosely connected districts that stretch several miles.

Someone tried that.

Thankfully it didn’t work out. If it did, all of these buildings would probably be headed to SouthSquare instead of downtown.

All it will take is the Cardinal to top out in North Hills and we’ll have a secondary skyline already larger then downtown Greensboro and Durham and it will likely continue to out pace both. Downtown Raleigh isn’t at a breakneck pace for towers but even that may change soon looks like. We’re doing more then fine overall.

Durham especially is growing fast, it’s fully expected they’re going to go through a nice boom in vertical building.

And that’s great for Durham!

In case anyone has me down as a Durham hater, that’s not the case at all

Saw this project proposed for Denver - made me think, whoa - less than 20 stories can be pretty dang beautiful and hey - maybe that’s how we put a river DTR!?
https://www.dezeen.com/2021/11/11/mad-architects-one-river-north-tower-denver-landscaped-rift/

Edit: In actuality, it’s a 16 story building with a 10 story ’ landscape river’ through the facade…

Also, another link from the same acticle about a MAD proposal has a funicular embedded in the design

I’d love to see buildings like this in the Triangle, not just in Raleigh.

Really interesting and way better than a tall building in my opinion. Thanks for sharing.

Downtown Durham resident here, another tower crane is being set up for a new condo project on Mangum street. That brings the count up to SEVEN, I believe.

Love this type of uplift on an old historic structure. Wish we could do the same with Goodnights…

I’d love to see more mid-rise apartment complexes that look like this or better in downtown. Especially in the Glenwood South district.

This is the Carroll at Bellemeade in Greensboro.

There’s nothing about this building that’s really any different from what’s being built downtown.

Its design is a little more appealing than most of the proposed projects, in my opinion. I can agree it’s not that much of a difference but :man_shrugging:t4:.
