…provided that the trees are healthy and will not be made unhealthy by the construction work. And aren’t sawtooth oaks or stinking pears. The pendulum right now has swung too far toward hagiographizing (I want that to be a word) any existing tree without recognizing whether the existing tree is healthy or not. Sometimes it’s better to remove a big old tree that’s unhealthy before it dies on its own, so we can put young healthy trees in its place and have them turn into old healthy trees someday. Holding on to an old tree just because its old doesn’t really do much for the tree or the environment, if the alternative is younger, healthier trees that can benefit from modern urban forestry practices and stay healthier, longer.
But in general I wholeheartedly agree we need (appropriate) incentives to retain and increase tree cover in downtown so we don’t turn it into an urban desert.
I am totally with you on those stinking pear trees. They are the worst in so many ways!!!
Now imagine how many cranes you would need for SH3?
Thanks goodness I’ve found a safe space/group where construction & crane porn is not just acceptable but celebrated.
Just as aside, my campus is getting a new business building to replace the one destroyed by the tornado. I am walking out of my way to check on it every day. For a town of 12K, its a big deal. Not as big as when the built the Chick-filet, but darn close.
There’s a place on the web for every fetish!
“The Line”. “The Link” is 2 blocks south.
Ouch. I’ve had a few.
Thanks for the invite.
How was Trophy? Ouch.
Lonely.
How about @GucciLittlePig teasing me at Vita Vite.
How about both of you not inviting me?
These are both sad things. I was about to leave Vita Vite, and suddenly a message from Dylan appears…but then never a reply until I was already home.
Not sure what kind of order these are going to actually upload in.
I’m particularly fond of how “The Line” apartments floating over the Tucker St extension are coming together. Also can’t wait for “The Hollow” to be tenant filled!
I love the transformative effect this whole project created! Hopefully this spurs new activity in the area. Great pics!
I feel like that for all the design flaws with this project we have largely ignored what is by far the worst one… the fact that the parking deck will be two floors taller than the line apartments. Amazing pics as always though!
Is that picture from capital?
No doubt that the north end of Glenwood South is well on its way of becoming the most significant urban neighborhood in the city. When this project is completed, It will be interesting to know the population of the area bounded by Peace on the north, Harrington on the east, North on the south and St. Mary’s on the west.
