But I’m still not sane

Interesting video about traffic studies and how they may work against projects like a taller SH3 and even the Zimmer tower.

So, it’s the cars/traffic generated by the greenfield/suburban developments that contributes a majority of traffic to a “level of service” metric to downtown intersections. That’s what I got from the video.

Now, who do we harass to influence using VMT vs Level of Service for our future DTR traffic analysis?

Btw, love that guy’s videos.

I’ve been watching his videos for a few years now. He’s a grad student in urban planning, or something like that. His delivery is good, but I have to admit that the inflection of his voice on the last word of many sentences gets annoying after a while.
As for who we get this to, someone here has to know someone on the current council!

Great video. I think the VMT metric makes a lot of sense. However, time, I think, is a major factor in people’s lives. Therefore, it will take some strong political will to get that changed over.

Cool…build me a building worth of DTR

Soooo what’s going on with the lights on the Capital Bridge? They have had whatever strip spot lights up there for a while. They going to put some sort of decorate cover over where the light shines through like back or up lighting?

There was like $1 million approved by the city for artwork and lighting. On that bridge and the Wade Avenue flyover capital bridge. I see the lighting, but I have not seen it on yet. And no artwork.

Would be some sh&* if that funding was part of the parks bond that got squashed.

I think this was approved like 3 years ago.

It’s probably fine, but when something was approved and where the funding is coming from are completely different. I could see an art piece being allocated from a park bond and installed by a completely different contractor instead of by the bridge prime contractor within the bridge budget. Having said that, the apparent time lag could be because procuring that contract hasn’t happened yet even if the design is done.

Speaking of bridges, the Peace Street bridge claims another victim.

Gotta love the mural of the opened tin can behind this…

That can’t be coincidence. No way.

Crazy how Raleigh AND Durham both have can-opener bridges like this in their downtowns!

I just thought of a good idea lol. They should make this like a draw bridge and keep it open until a train comes.
