Actually, having a downtown that’s being built more in terms of residential can end up paying off for Raleigh in the short term. City cores that are too dependent on office workers to support their retail and entertainment businesses will likely be more impacted over the next year+.
Yep, restaurants were already struggling before Covid. A lot of business only survived because of the office breakfast/lunch crowds.
Once I open my taco shop I wonder if I will have consistent volume all day and night and not just the lunch crowd. That’s why I’m hoping for a 20+ story residential tower on the east of Moore Square block and much more residential all over the place.
As it turns out, Char Grill is the perfect restaurant model for these days.
And a long overdue awesome public rooftop bar. As the views would be amazing from that lot.
Saw a thread on reddit from last week that said Aug 21. That was from someone who has a friend in Publix corporate (supposedly).
Anyways, there are 2 tips that line up sometime in late August vs one saying October.
I feel like Aug 22 is a more sound date so they have an extra 24 hours to ensure everything is in order.
Actually I think it would be perfect to be 8/21 … splitting the difference between me and @OakCityDylan.
September 2
Damn you. Was coming to post. @OakCityDylan and I were pretty damned close.
We are just weeks away from a major milestone for Downtown…the opening of a full sized grocery store. I hope this brings new life to downtown and doesn’t detract from Glenwood South Pharmacy and Weaver Street. Once Smoky Hollow starts opening retail and restaurants, the area should light up. There seems to be a lot more cars at Peace Raleigh apartments so hopefully that means leasing has picked up.
It simply can’t be overstated how much a watershed moment this is for downtown and Glenwood South in particular. While Smoky Hollow is an enormous project in its own right, I think that its full opening will only bring more energy and more development to all the parcels in its walkshed.
Looking good. You beat me to it. I’m in North Hills getting a haircut and then was going downtown to take a few status update pictures
Please still do! The more the merrier!
Okiedoke. Here’s a bit of a photodump. I like the brick work and the paneling and the office building finally has the grey trim visible in a few spots.
Those are good ones-the new condos are really starting to take shape. Especially at the bottom you can almost see the new storefront layouts now!
I like that one, how many stories is it?
they are leasing these pretty fast from what I hear
