Smoky Hollow Phases 1, 2, and 3

Those are really good ideas and smoky hollow is a perfect midpoint between Glenwood and Seaboard so these types of business would be great to bridge these three communities.

A barber is coming.

Awesome, we definitely don’t have nearly enough barbers and hair salons on every corner and nook and cranny in Raleigh

I would love for DTR to have a couple iterations of the neighborhood nook bar / pinxto shops of Spain

Quimet + Quimet from Barcelona would be a great model

Wasn’t sure where to put this. But why the heck has the Capital Boulevard bridge artwork still not been installed? The first section got installed like December/January and it’s been crickets since

Like who manages these projects?

If they work for the city, they’re probably trying to manage a physical installation while WFH :joy:.

It may be a new RFP process if the original fabricator quit or was terminated. Or lack of materials.

I laugh, but what a pain it has been working in construction/development while city halls have been closed for 18 months
so hard to get answers, approvals, etc when staffers no longer have an extension to dial.

Well, here comes the CLT-ification of SmoHo - Midwood Smokehouse announced, woop-womp!

Love it!

Here’s an article on the future Smoky Hollow restaurant!

To get to the 4125 square feet, it looks like they’ve taken 3 of the 4 spots in the upper right of this map. The one excluded seems to be the upper left of that grouping, or the SW corner. (the map is not oriented north and south). I fear that the restaurant will put its back to West St. in order to open their dining area to the Hollow for outdoor seating.

Edit: It also appears that this will be Midwood’s most urban location in the small franchise. None of the others appear to be central city. The Central Ave. seems to be the closest to Uptown, but it’s still on a very suburban avenue via a quick look at google maps. It’s also interesting that the Charlotte article avoids mentioning that this new location is in downtown Raleigh, rather saying “Smoky Hollow Development”.

Shouldn’t it be Midwest SmockHouse?

I hope Midwood does well there and, I hope it keeps the lines shorter at the better spots we’ve already got
although those purveyors might prefer to keep stacking up demand and selling out.
Although, perhaps a future post in the BBQ thread to ponder
are we soon approaching ‘Que saturation’?Wonder if that factored into Wyatt’s backing out of Gateway, etc
?
I’ll state again that I hoped Kane would find some balance between local concepts and pulling things from other towns - we’ll see - so far, recent history at NH / Dillon seems to lean towards more ’ franchises’ from elsewhere and a sprinkling of local.

From the DRA tour last month, Kane’s commercial rep that talked to us said that they are prioritizing local (I suppose Charlotte is local?) and that they are turning away national retailers. Who knows how much of that is actually true?

So
when can we see phase 3 get built, the tower part anyway???

I’d love to see a hotel in this area, preferably at the still life nightclub lot. I think a Hyatt Place or even a boutique hotel would fit nicely in this area

I think that lot will pretty much be all HSR ROW eventually. But we could definitely use a Hyatt Place or Hyatt House (or both) downtown. I pretty much only stay at Hyatt place / house when I do simple travel and it seems weird that our downtown doesn’t have one.

I’m sure “turning away” is being used generously.
