That’s true I’d love to see a development over the tracks like many developments in China.
I’ve been saying for a while that the land between SH and the tracks should be used for a food truck rodeo with a picnic tables area &strings of light, etc, not unlike what’s behind Raleigh Beer Garden.
To no surprise… Two t-bone collisions today at the corner of Johnson & N. West St. This has gotta be fixed
At the very least, this needs to be a 4-way stop immediately. It’s a downtown I don’t think much needs to happen warrant wise to go from 2-way to 4-way.
Agreed. This could be implemented in a day
I’ll say it again, that’s a very dangerous intersection by foot and by car. There isn’t a marked crosswalk across West. There isn’t a sidewalk on the north side of Johnson past 510 Glenwood heading east. The utility pole at the SW corner of the intersection obstructs the view of drivers heading east on Johnson, and all the planting on that corner only makes it worse. It’s also difficult to see traffic coming south on West (from Peace) when cars are parked illegally on the west side of West to the north of Johnson.
The damn intersection is a MESS!
The other option would be to prioritize Johnson through traffic and put the stop signs on West instead, though a 4 way stop is also perfectly fine with me.
Completely agree. Surely someone here knows somebody who can fast track this and make an easy fix on a weirdly lapsed issue.
I know someone previously said they were reaching out to the city with an email. Did they have luck with that?
I do love how that great parking deck frames the vista . . . .
Right… I was actually going to comment how badly that deck needs either greenery or some paint. As of right now, the whole area is kind of a concrete wasteland.
Still waiting for that mural Kane Realty told us was coming during the tour…
Leases are getting signed per a friend opening a place there. Should hear some formal announcements on the concepts soon…exciting mix of places. The restaurants will probably start opening next April. In the meantime, the fall concert series in the Hollow will be awesome.
You mentioned restaurants which was expected… please tell me there are at least a handful of actual retail stores signing leases here
Honestly, I’ve heard of 5-6 dining and drink concepts and a yoga studio, but not much in way of retail yet. There are some available store fronts across the street that could be more affordable from a $/SQ.ft. perspective and still impact the area positively. I’m just not sure retail stores can afford the cost at Smoky Hollow. Oak City Sports Cards just opened a few weeks ago across the street. Worth a visit.
Across the street on West? Do tell!
So they bring a restaurant with the name of a charlottesgotalot usa neighborhood?
I give it 1 year
Architectural firm moving into the 421 Harrington Office Space.
Also nice to hear this lil tid bit in the article “The developers are moving forward with plans to design the third phase with additional retail, office and multifamily housing later this year”
Damn, I’m (completely selfishly) disappointed by this move
Being close to Union/Moore Sq Station really has a big impact on how attractive somewhere is as a place to work. I’d love to one day be able to conveniently commute from Durham via transit, and Clark Nexsen is one of the best firms in NC.
