I’m interested to see how this Midwood smokehouse vents while cooking. What at first could smell good would most likely make me sick if it’s constant. I roll my windows up near Cowfish. Can’t imagine living near it.
I meant Raleigh wasn’t ready for a Roman style pizza joint in the vein of Boncí…
It was a half-hearted joke as I’m sure Boncí isn’t ready to open in Raleigh as we’re not yet at that ‘tier’
I like Vic’s and Farina in LaFayette, if that’s what you’re referring to…?
‘Authentic’ Italian is a tough peg to fit in an ever-changing slot, if you’ve been to Italy. The regionality is quite diverse and incredibly tasty because of the focus on high quality, in-season ingredients and simplicity.
We could definitely use more of that in town.
We like Tuscan Blu in The Depot. And it’s SUPER close. Off topic from SmoHo but wanted to toss that out there.
TBJ dropped a piece detailing the new tenant announcements @ SH.
https://www.bizjournals.com/triangle/news/2021/09/09/smoky-hollow-adds-to-tenant-mix-in-raleigh.html
May not be what you were looking for, but it seems like the yoga studio will have a retail component also. Pulled this quote from the TBJ piece I posted above.
Dose Yoga + Smoothies owner Emily Wallace will bring the hot yoga studio and natural smoothie bar concept to Raleigh. Wallace previously co-owned Midwood Yoga and 110 Yoga in the city but now hopes Dose will be more of a “one-stop shop,” Wallace said.
“I’ve heard about and seen a lot of the growth that has happened this year [at Smoky Hollow] and will continue to happen in the next couple years and I like the urban vibe,” she said. “Also, it will give me an opportunity to differentiate myself from other yoga studios in the area, especially by incorporating the smoothie bar with a walk-up window and creating a full lifestyle brand.”
The studio will accommodate about 45 to 50 students. Also, the space will include cafe seating and a retail portion.
the Smoky Hollow website was updated to show where the new tenants will be located. There’s a loooooot of space to fill. lol.
It’s exciting they have some smaller spaces. I would think they would be more first time retailers that will follow once the larger anchors are solidified.
I’d be interested to know how much those smaller spaces are going for though… first time retailers don’t usually have much capital (source: I am a hopeful first time retailer/dreamer haha)
If I’m reading the picture I posted above correctly, the rumored Crunkleton should be taking that 2k square foot place next to Madre…but dang no one’s taken a crack at anything in the bottom right
I am curious if Kane and co. are prioritizing certain types of retailers that face the Hollow? Madre, Midwood, J Lights, Crunkleton are all bar/restaurant types
When I inquired for a business I was looking into opening, they were looking to get $35sq ft per year (so around $40K per year for the 1100sq ft spaces). Which was definitely on the high end of retail rental rates. 5-10 year long lease agreements. They were including a $50-$55 sq ft build out allowance tho, which was nice.
It would be nice to have a Green Valley Grill in K1-2. https://www.greenvalleygrill.com/
Did anyone notice that Smoky Hollow added another tentant? (Milk Lab)
Anyone been to their other locations in Cary or Durham?
The SH map hasn’t been updated yet — wonder which unit this will go into.
YOOOOOOOOO! THIS IS WHAT I’M TALKIN’ BOUT!!! Yes I’ve complained about the near total lack of retail-only (no food/drink) announced for Smoky Hollow - but of all the tenants lined up, this is the one right here. I’ve been to the one in Cary a few times and their bubble tea is BANGIN’
I used to live near the Cary one and it’s pretty good. It was always packed and cramped in there (pre-COVID) since it is a small space and the line would be out the door. However the rolled ice cream was good and they had unlimited toppings too so it’ll be a nice fit for sure
What was the latest timeline on SH3? anybody has some inside info from Kane Realty
Soonish:
Williams Realty & Building Company is currently working on the master plan and “third phase is expected to include office, residential, retail and hotel space.” No timeline mentioned but I suspect we will know more next year.
There were three surveyors out there today. Not sure if it has anything to do with phase 3 though.
Looks like they’re extending the bike lanes on West Street down in front of Smoky Hollow today.
West and Harrington Streets will both complete their protected bike lanes all the way to Peace St.
Once North West Street gets a bike lane, it will complete the much anticipated “Greenway to Downtown” connection from North Raleigh.
