And forgot to add that the three restaurants coming soon, the spaces were quite empty. I can’t see them opening up this Spring or even Summer optimistically.
I was walking in there the other day and actually felt like they did really well architectural detail wise. Gave me shades of the Wharf District up in DC. I just wish it was a bit bigger!
I had my dog with me so it was like torture trying to keep him out of those rain gardens. That was the only “rule” per say that rubbed me a little wrong.
I can understand Midtown Atlanta having police surveillance/enforcement issues but I don’t understand the need for a private public safety department in such a small area surrounded by police departments.
Whatcha listenin’ to?
Us Line Residents got a memo in late January that J. Lights was starting construction “next week”. None the less that week has long passed and nothing has happened. I wonder what is up with that.
I’ve also heard rumblings Madre may get working on their space soon.
I thought there were rumors of the Crunkleton opening here too but haven’t seen anything. I just felt like there was so much momentum for Smoky Hollow and then the other phases stopped, nothing much has opened here, etc. I just hope everything picks back up now.
Yeah Crunk was thrown in that Raleigh article, but they’ve never made an official announcement they’re coming to Smoky Hollow like the others. There was also a speculated pizza shop that’s never gotten announced.
All the podcasts and music.
Just Raleigh things. I believe like a dozen restaurants opened in downtown Durham these past 6 months. Whats the last restaurants to open in downtown Raleigh. Union Special #2
What’s opened recently in downtown Durham? Always looking for some new places to try when I’m there.
Cugino Forno, Queenys, Mr. Fries, some seafood food truck turned restaurant I can’t remember the name, Press Coffee, two wine bars, and scores of chain restaurants at Brightleaf like Jenni’s Ice Cream. Which I wouldn’t mind a Jenni’s here.
This blog maintains a good list for Durham (scroll down to the “now open” section). Most excited to see how Rubies + Remedy Room turn out, a bar + music lounge above. Jenni’s isn’t open yet.
EDIT: oops, meant to reply to @GucciLittlePig
Heard Mr Fries is really good.
Mr Fries would be a pretty sweet late spot for Smoky Hollow or at least near Glenwood.
Has a coffee shop for Smoky Hollow been annouced yet? Saw this on Raleigh Mag today and this Charlotte-based coffee shop is saying they’re planning on opening 5 stores in the Raleigh/Triangle area and they mention Glenwood as a potential spot.
Many months ago there was a coffee shop rumored to be going into the corner space in 301 Hillsborough, but not sure if that fell through or just taking time to get started.
Didn’t the SH tour guides last Summer tell us that they weren’t providing free coffee to their commercial tenants in their lounge suite so that they wouldn’t be competing with the coffee shop that is going into the Hollow?
That does ring a bell.
When I was looking at opening a bar business, SH leasing told me that they were prioritizing finding a coffee tenant for SH. So it wouldn’t surprise me.
J.Lights having financial challenges getting constriction started. He’s all ready (building permit, approved plans and GC) but bank pulled their funding when they saw his Nov/Dev revenue at the Durham location. He’s offering a 10% return for someone to fund the $275k needed to get going.
