Smoky Hollow Phases 1, 2, and 3

Unpopular take: I honestly believe that phase 3 should be a 10-12 story complex similar to the Peace Raleigh Apartments, obviously with more ground floor retail.

While I agree that they don’t need to maximize the full 40-story rezoning, I would like to see at minimum a 20-story apartment tower here. 25-30 stories would be the sweet spot, as it’d still be fairly tall as a grand entrance building from the North, but not crazy enough that they couldn’t start building sooner than later and have confidence it will lease up within a few years.

As a northside Glenwood South neighbor, here’s my take.
I want to fill the greater neighborhood and walkshed with as many residents as we can get so that we can create demand for more neighborhood resources and make the entire neighborhood even more walkable.
It’s feet on the sidewalk that’s going to compel empty retail spaces to fill, and transform the neighborhood from being primarily a weekend party scene to something more balanced and comprehensive.
With Publix as the most recognizable anchor to the walkshed, I see it & Smoky Hollow as the current epicenter. Build baby build!

So it’s named “Neighborhood-Good Time Bar”?

They’re having a guest bartender on 7/11, Mayor Baldwin. Ha!

Went over to Neighborhood last night. Really cool place. They’ve got ping pong tables outside, cool places to sit, and the prices on the menu include the tip, tax, and price of the drinks.

No tabs either, so you just go to the bar, say what you want, tap your card, and they give it to you. What a concept.

Decor is infinitely better than whatever industrial minimalism New Anthem was going for.

Um I don’t claim to know a thing about interior design but to me this looks like a mashup of about six different patterns and colors. Early 90s gaudy-chic? I prefer industrial minimalism.

Maximalism is back baby. Gen Z loves it (in large part because Millenials like minimalism and fashion is always cyclical).

I like the look. It looks comfortable and pleasant but a little fun/unique. I’ve seen way worse new bar interiors. Fake green ivy walls and neon lights come to mind.

I can’t stand Gen Z fashion/aesthetics. It’s like obnoxiously bad. I thought it was ironic at first but it’s like they think it’s retro and cool, but have no idea how hideous everyone considered that look for the last 25-30 years. I’m ready for 1998 style to come back. Baggy cargo pants and unbuttoned flannel shirts. I’m gonna be so fly. The kids still say that right?

New branch or are they just moving the downtown location they already have on Hargett?

My source for this one was the Smoky Hollow website. So not too sure

My hope is that this is just some initial foundation pieces and it organically builds from there in layers.
