Smoky Hollow Phases 1, 2, and 3

Spoken like a true [older generation] - same thing your parents were saying about you and your friends lmao. Get over it. Y’all are getting older.

Count me in as a young millenial that LOVES maximalism.

One thing about getting older is that you realize that style trends ebb and flow and every now and then something unique emerges.

What date were these photos taken on? I recognize someone in one of your pictures and I’d love to freak her out a bit. Just for fun

Took it last Friday. It was their first official day open.

Can’t wait for Gen Alpha to bring back minimalism. Give it 10 years.

Thank you. Person I recognized: freaked out.

Much appreciated!

Looks like construction has actually started for Crunkleton! Smoky Hollow will almost be at full capacity in 12 months.

We walked by on Thursday going to the meetup, and all I saw was a stepladder and trash can. Maybe some storage for other stuff. But I didn’t look that hard. What did you see? Feels like this has been coming soon forever…

The concrete was dug up for what I assume is the start of plumbing. There’s also architectural plans laid out.

Apparently you broke the story and this is actually happening finally!

Tucker Street Diner, opening in November, assuming where J Lights briefly was.

If this stays open LATE, and prices are REASONABLE (I’m talking $5 BEC sandos) then it will CRUSH.

Has any restaurant in a decent neighborhood sold a $5 dollar sandwich with meat in it in this decade?

McDonalds?

I’m guessing you stopped at the pretty pictures and didn’t read the article…

“Don’t expect to grab a 2am nightcap and fries here as “nothing good happens after midnight,” maintains co-owner James Park”

No doubt that that a business with reasonable prices will crush, but I don’t think that I’d expect a $5 sandwich without time travel. These days I’m just happy to find anything in the $10 range.

traditional—yet elevated—daylong diner food

Yep, $10 sandwiches.

“accessible enough, but not so simple that it’s like a Waffle House and not as fancy as First Watch,” notes Park

Both of their other Diner concepts are open 7a to 9 or 10p.
It would seem a walk up window could perform well here in GloSoSmoHo, but perhaps you run the model you know works for you and adapt once the doors open up if additional opportunity exists.

Ok I was thinking of Jubala’s BEC biscuit, my favorite around, and I checked their menu - those go for $7.50. If this place can’t match that or even go lower and just use regular toasted bread (so fine I’ll meet in the middle and say $6-7 for a basic BEC on toast) - then it’s no “diner”

Meanwhile, I’m pretty sure I read that Birdie’s On Fayetteville plans to be open until 2 or 4 AM (I can’t find a source despite looking, but I know I read it somewhere). Fayetteville Street is Sin City confirmed.

There are absolutely challenges around having a bunch of drunk people stumble into your establishment that late. I think a clever business could figure out a way to do it. I have real good memories of Tasty 8’s back in the day.
